Agares Enchanter — The Encounter
the tongue of the Duke — it teaches languages and commands the earth to still your feet. · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Agares Enchanter
Agares is the Ars Goetia Duke who halts flight and makes the fugitive return; his Enchanters carry that gift to the battlefield. They lock the party in place with earth-magic and compelling words, hold the dangerous ones, and drag deserters back. They are the legion's control caster.

Agares Enchanter
Medium fiend, lawful evil
CR 4 · 1,100 XP · GUIDELINETongue of Agares. The Enchanter understands and can magically speak with any creature, and it has advantage on Charisma checks made to command or compel.
Spellcasting. The Enchanter casts spells (spell save DC 14, +6 to hit). At will: command, message, tremor (a 5-ft. square becomes difficult terrain until the start of its next turn). 3/day: hold person, earthbind. 1/day: slow.
Actions
Warding Staff. Melee Spell Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) force damage.
Word of Return (Recharge 5–6). The Enchanter names one creature within 60 feet that has moved away from a point this turn; it must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or be teleported back to the space it started its last turn in and be restrained until the end of its next turn.
It speaks and the ground answers. Agares is the Duke who makes runaways return — and its Enchanters make sure no one leaves the field they have chosen.

The same Medium fiend, bound as a lesser ally and set to guard whoever summoned it.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Agares Enchanter?
At its native tier Agares Enchanter is CR 4. Scale the AC, HP, to-hit, and save DC to the tier line matching your party's level.
How does Agares Enchanter fight in its legion?
It is the legion's control caster — it locks movement with earth-magic, holds threats, and Word of Return drags fleeing or kiting PCs back into the killzone.
Why is the Enchanter a priority target?
Its whole kit denies the party mobility — hold, earthbind, and Word of Return keep PCs pinned where the Nekhbet dive and the legion can reach them. Kill it early to get your footwork back.
