Anght
broad-winged pincered matron of the brine-colony
Anght — The Encounter
broad-winged pincered matron of the brine-colony · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Anght
Anght is the voice of the Colony of Barnakol, the member whose drone binds the swarm into one mind. Larger than her kin and slower to rouse, she hangs at the heart of the horde and sings in the chittering cant, and around her the lesser members fight without fear and strike the harder. Her pincers crush like Berloom's, her cry shatters a deck like a breaking wave, but her true weapon is the colony itself, marshalled by her droning into a wall of shell and blade. Coast-raiders who heard that sound say the swarm moved as one body, every claw and wing answering her. Kill Anght and the horde does not break, but it forgets how to act together.
Run Anght in Sixty Seconds
- She buffs the whole swarm colony members within 30 ft. ignore fear and hit grappled foes harder.
- Kill her to scatter them drop Anght and the horde loses its rally and its bonus on pinned targets.
- The cry hits a cone Sundering Cry is a 30-ft. cone, DC 14 Con, 4d8 thunder and deafened, so don't cluster.
- Reach pincers that grab she clamps at 10 ft. (escape DC 15) to feed her own aura's damage bonus.
- She hovers out of reach Flyby lets her stay central and safe; bring ranged fire to pull her down.
Anght
Large monstrosity, lawful evil
CR 7 · 2,900 XP · GUIDELINERallying Drone (signature). While Anght is alive, other Colony of Barnakol creatures within 30 ft. have advantage on saving throws against being frightened and deal an extra 3 (1d6) damage on the first hit each turn against a creature grappled by any colony member.
Hovering Flyer. Anght can hover and doesn't provoke opportunity attacks when it flies out of an enemy's reach.
Actions
Multiattack. Anght makes two Pincer attacks.
Pincer. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d10+4) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 15) if Anght has a free pincer.
Sundering Cry (Recharge 5-6). Anght looses a grinding drone in a 30-ft. cone. Each creature there must make a DC 14 Constitution save, taking 18 (4d8) thunder damage on a failure, or half on a success, and is deafened on a failure until the end of its next turn.
A great barnacle-armored matron on broad veined wings, twin crushing pincers spread wide and antennae thrown back in a droning cry.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Hover near the swarm so your drone keeps them fearless, clamp the nearest threat, and loose Sundering Cry into clustered foes. Stay central; the colony fights better around you. Pull back into the horde when bloodied.
Anchor the swarm: keep colony members in your 30-ft. aura, open with Sundering Cry on the bunched party, then clamp a key target while your kin pile damage onto the grappled. When bloodied, hover behind the horde and keep the buff up rather than fighting alone.
Fight as the swarm's matron, never solo: stay surrounded so the aura empowers every grapple the colony lands, and chain Sundering Cry into the densest cluster. Clamp casters for the horde. When bloodied, retreat into the swarm; the colony is your real body.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Anght?
Anght is CR 7 (2,900 XP) at her native Tier 2, with Tier 1 (~CR 2) and Tier 3 (~CR 11) numbers so she can scale to your table.
How does Anght fight alongside the rest of the Colony of Barnakol?
She is the swarm's matron and rally-point. Her drone makes nearby colony members fearless and amps their attacks on grappled prey, so she anchors the horde while clamping targets and blasting clusters with Sundering Cry.
Is Anght a boss?
No. Despite being the colony's leader-voice, she is an elite support anchor, not solo-capable. She is dangerous because of the swarm she empowers; run her surrounded by other Barnakol members.
