Visgor — The Encounter

winged razor-skirmisher of the brine-swarm · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.

Who Is Visgor

Visgor is the Colony of Barnakol's wind, the part of the horde that never touches the deck for long. While the brutes break the line and the spinners bind it, Visgor circles overhead and falls upon the stragglers, the runners, the wounded carried to the rear. Coastal watchmen learned to fear the moth-shadow that crosses the moon and is gone before the warning is shouted. The barnacles along its wing-roots whisper in the colony's chittering cant, marking which prey has slipped the swarm; then Visgor dives. It will not stand and fight, for that is the brutes' work. It cuts, lifts away on the seawind, and chooses again.

Flyby (signature). Visgor doesn't provoke opportunity attacks when it flies out of an enemy's reach.

Dive Slash. If Visgor flies at least 20 ft. straight toward a target before a Talon hit, the attack deals an extra 9 (2d8) slashing damage.

Actions

Multiattack. Visgor makes two Talon attacks.

Talon. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8+4) slashing damage.

A lithe, barnacle-flecked flyer poised on one foot, broad moth-wings spread, its slender arms ending in curved cutting talons.

How It Fights — by Tier

Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.

Tier 1Levels 1-4 · GUIDELINE
AC14HP45 (7d8+14) To-hit+5Save DC12

Dive on the squishiest back-line target for the bonus slash, then fly out without provoking. Pick off whoever the warband has separated. Never land in the melee; keep choosing fresh targets each round.

Tier 2Levels 5-10 · NATIVE
AC16HP102 (15d8+30) To-hit+7Save DC14

Open with a 20-ft. dive onto a caster or archer for Dive Slash, Multiattack, then Flyby out of reach. Harry the flanks the colony's brutes have exposed. When bloodied, climb high and keep hit-and-running rather than trading blows.

Tier 3Levels 11-15 · GUIDELINE
AC18HP168 (24d8+60) To-hit+9Save DC16

Fight as a flight, never alone: pair with other winged colony members to dive the back line in waves. Strip the casters and healers the ground horde can't reach. When bloodied, peel off and re-dive; the swarm punishes anyone who chases you.

Questions, Asked at the Table

What CR is Visgor?

Visgor is CR 5 (1,800 XP) at its native Tier 2, with Tier 1 (~CR 2) and Tier 3 (~CR 11) numbers so it can scale to your table.

How does Visgor fight alongside the rest of the Colony of Barnakol?

It is the swarm's aerial skirmisher. While ground members break and bind the front, Visgor dives on the back line, kills stragglers and casters, then flies clear, refusing to be pinned down.

How do I stop the hit-and-run?

Take away the air. Readied ranged attacks, restraining effects, or denying it a straight dive line all blunt the Flyby-and-Dive Slash loop that makes it dangerous.
