Vorg
winged blood-reaver of the Dreadblood swarm
Vorg — The Encounter
winged blood-reaver of the Dreadblood swarm · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Vorg
Vorg is one of the airborne reavers that wheel above the Dreadblood Maulers when the warband descends on a settlement. Folk traditions of the Lesser Key describe such spirits as the unquiet slain bound to a hunger for living blood, kept aloft by membranous wings grown in undeath. Vorg does not lead and does not think beyond the kill; it circles the swarm, marks who bleeds, and falls upon them while the grounded reavers hold the line. Where the Maulers march, villagers bar their roofs against shapes like Vorg, for it strikes from above and is gone before a blade can answer.
Run Vorg in Sixty Seconds
- Open from above then dive onto whoever is already bleeding.
- Kill-priority is the wounded then Bloodscent gives advantage on anyone hurt this round.
- When bloodied then stay airborne and let the flight finish the front line.
- It's swarm, not solo then keep Vorg paired with grounded Maulers.
Vorg
Large undead, chaotic evil
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINEBloodscent. Vorg has advantage on attack rolls against any creature that has lost hit points since the start of Vorg's last turn.
Undead Fortitude. If damage reduces Vorg to 0 hit points, it makes a Constitution save (DC 5 + the damage taken, radiant or a critical hit auto-fails). On a success, it drops to 1 hit point instead.
Actions
Multiattack. Vorg makes two claw attacks.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6+4) slashing damage plus 4 (1d8) necrotic damage.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Dive (Bonus Action). Vorg flies up to half its fly speed without provoking opportunity attacks; if it ends adjacent to a bloodied creature, its next claw this turn deals an extra 4 (1d8) necrotic damage.
A gaunt, bat-winged horror that drops from the dark to rake the wounded, drawn always to the smell of fresh blood.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Run Vorg as a lone harrier diving on whoever is already hurt. It opens from the air, claws the bloodied target, then lifts away. At this tier keep it with the swarm and let grounded kin tie up the front.
Open by diving onto a wounded back-line caster, both claws into the bleeder. When bloodied, stay airborne and pick targets the rest of the flight have already cut. Never solo: Vorg hunts as part of the winged pack.
Three ways to run it: a circling sky-pack that dives in unison, a flanker that finishes prey the grounded Maulers maul, or a terror that herds fleeing villagers. Fight as a flight, never alone.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Vorg?
Vorg is CR 6 at its native Tier 2 (AC 16, 127 HP). Stat blocks for Tier 1 (~CR 2) and Tier 3 (~CR 11) are provided to scale it to your party.
How does Vorg fight alongside the rest of the Dreadblood Maulers?
Vorg is an airborne harrier, not a leader. The grounded reavers hold the line while Vorg circles overhead, dives on bleeding targets, and lifts away. Run it as part of the winged pack.
Is Vorg a spellcaster?
No. Vorg carries no implement and casts nothing; it is a pure melee diver that relies on claws and the scent of blood.
