Saraula
twin-faced winged herald who whispers ruin
Saraula — The Encounter
twin-faced winged herald who whispers ruin · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Saraula
Saraula bears two faces, a sign of the doubled corruption in her blood, and she uses both to break minds before the flock breaks bodies. She was among the Watchers who taught forbidden words to mortals, and the punishment twisted her into a herald of despair. In the brood that gathers to the old watcher-lord she is the caster and morale-breaker, hovering at the rear to seed fear, freeze champions with a glance, and whisper doubt into the ranks. Her watchful second face cannot be ambushed, so she guards the flight from surprise even as she shatters the enemy's resolve. She never fights at the front; she drifts above her kin, choosing whom to silence and whom to terrify, and the warband closes on the broken.
Run Saraula in Sixty Seconds
- Open with control then hold person the enemy anchor or fear their support on round one.
- Stay airborne and rear then hover behind the flight and never enter the melee line.
- Whisper disadvantage then Two-Faced Watch saps the attack rolls of foes near her.
- Save the dirge for clusters then Dirge of the Fall when enemies bunch within 20 ft.
- Guard the flock then her second face means the warband cannot be ambushed.
Saraula
Medium fiend, neutral evil
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINETwo-Faced Watch (Signature). Saraula's second face never sleeps. She cannot be surprised, has advantage on Perception checks, and any creature that starts its turn within 30 feet of her and can hear her whispering must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom save or have disadvantage on its next attack roll.
Innate Spellcasting. Saraula's spellcasting ability is Charisma (save DC 15). She can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components: at will - vicious mockery, minor illusion; 3/day each - hold person, fear.
Actions
Multiattack. Saraula makes two Talon attacks, or casts one spell and makes one Talon attack.
Talon. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6+4) slashing damage plus 5 (2d4) psychic damage.
Dirge of the Fall (Recharge 5-6). Saraula sings a maddening dirge. Each creature within 20 feet must make a DC 15 Wisdom save, taking 18 (4d8) psychic damage on a failure, or half as much on a success. A creature that fails is also frightened of her until the end of its next turn.
One face speaks honeyed promises; the other screams the truth of the fall. Between them, Saraula unmakes the courage of any who hear her.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Use Saraula as the support caster of a small fallen band. Hover at the back, hold person the toughest foe so kin can swarm it, and whisper disadvantage onto attackers near her. Let the warband do the killing.
Her native tier; run her as the flight's mind-breaker. Open with fear or hold person on the enemy's anchor, layer Dirge of the Fall into clusters, and keep her second face guarding against ambush. She never lands in the line, only directs the host's kills.
Field her in a larger warband as the controller. Lock the kill-priority with hold person, scatter support with fear and Dirge of the Fall, and feed disadvantage to anyone near her. She is the rear-line mind that decides the fight, never a frontline solo.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Saraula?
Saraula is CR 6 (2,300 XP) at her native Tier 2, with Tier 1 (~CR 2) and Tier 3 (~CR 11) lines so she can support weaker or stronger Fallen Watcher flights. All her spells are SRD.
How does Saraula fight alongside the rest of the Fallen Watchers?
She is the rear-line caster and morale-breaker. She freezes champions with hold person, terrifies the ranks with fear and her dirge, and guards the flight from ambush, leaving her kin to fall on the foes she has broken.
Should Saraula fight on her own?
No. She has no legendary actions and little frontline durability; her control and fear only pay off with kin to exploit the openings, so she fights behind the warband.
