Lakan
lunging crescent-glaive reaver of the swamp pack
Lakan — The Encounter
lunging crescent-glaive reaver of the swamp pack · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Lakan
Lakan fights the way a gator hunts: from just out of reach, where the long crescent glaive lets him cut without being cut. The warband forms a hedge of blades around its heavier kin, and Lakan is the sharpest edge of it, lunging to skewer anyone who closes on Ragur or the shamans. He learned the reach-dance in the reeds, where a half-step too far means the jaws find you first, and he has carried that patience into the line. When the Gator Tribe spreads to encircle, Lakan holds the gap the others cannot, daring the enemy to step into his arc.
Run Lakan in Sixty Seconds
- Kill priority then post Lakan between the enemy and the warband's soft kin.
- Open with a 10-foot glaive lunge; stay at reach so foes must close into your arc.
- When something closes trigger Reach Reaver for a free reaction strike, then Tail Sweep to trip the next.
- Run him as the warband's reach-screen, never a lone boss.
Lakan
Medium humanoid (reptilian), chaotic neutral
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINEHold Breath. Lakan can hold his breath for 15 minutes.
Reach Reaver. Lakan's glaive has reach. When a hostile creature he can see enters the 5-foot space adjacent to him (and thus within his reach), he can use his reaction to make one glaive attack against it.
Actions
Multiattack. Lakan makes two glaive attacks.
Crescent Glaive. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8+3) slashing damage.
Tail Sweep. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d6+3) bludgeoning damage, and a Large or smaller target must succeed on a DC 14 Strength save or be knocked prone.
A fast, low-slung gator who keeps a wide moon-bladed glaive spinning at arm's length.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Use Lakan as a lone reach-skirmisher beside weaker kin. He stays at 10 feet, punishes anyone who closes, and trips runners. Fights as a warband, never solo.
Hold a 10-foot screen in front of the heavy gators and shamans. Reach Reaver punishes anyone who steps in; Tail Sweep trips chargers. He guards the pack's soft kin, never solos.
Run him as the reach-wall of a full gator flight. He locks down a flank with reactions and trips, while the warband swarms whoever he stalls. He fights the line, never alone.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Lakan?
CR 6 (2,300 XP) at his native Tier 2. Scale to ~CR 2 for Tier 1 or ~CR 11 for Tier 3 using the tier table.
How does Lakan fight alongside the rest of the Gator Tribe?
He is the reach-screen. Lakan holds a glaive's distance in front of Ragur and the shamans, punishing anyone who tries to close on the soft kin. He is a rank-and-file skirmisher, not a solo boss.
How does Reach Reaver work?
Because his glaive has reach, when an enemy steps into the 5-foot space next to him he can spend his reaction to swing, making it costly to approach his line.
