Goblin Raider 3
Goblin Raider 3 — The Encounter
Spike-mawled brute of the goblin raiding pack · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Goblin Raider 3
Among raiders there is always one too big to scout and too dumb to lead, and that one carries the maul. These Raiders are the breakers of the pack: where their kin slip past defenders, the Bone-Breaker simply caves them in. The spiked maul is part weapon and part status symbol, a thing only the strongest goblin can swing, and its wielder guards the right to carry it with murderous jealousy. In a breach it goes for shields and doors and skulls in roughly that order, and it loves nothing more than knocking a foe flat so its smaller kin can swarm the kill. For all its strength it is still a goblin, prone to the same cowardice and greed, quick to flee a losing fight and quicker to bully weaker creatures into doing its dying for it. A Bone-Breaker rarely lives long, but it makes the most of the carnage while it does.
Run Goblin Raider 3 in Sixty Seconds
- Shove, then smash Round one, shove a frontliner prone (auto-failing Bone-Breaker), then maul it while it is helpless to react.
- Lock the threat Use Bone-Breaker on the deadliest PC so it cannot use shield, parry, or opportunity reactions.
- Kill-priority: the anchor Break the party's tank or blocker so lighter raiders can flood past to the casters.
- When bloodied It roars, shoves a foe back, and Disengages, bullying a smaller goblin to cover its retreat.
- Three ways to run it Breacher (caves in doors and shields), pack-anchor (knocks PCs prone for the swarm), or enforcer (uses Bully's Roar to dominate weaker foes).
Goblin Raider 3
Small humanoid (goblinoid), chaotic evil
CR 2 · 450 XP · GUIDELINENimble Escape. The raider can take the Disengage or Hide action as a bonus action on each of its turns.
Bone-Breaker. The raider swings a spiked maul taller than itself. As a signature blow, once per turn when it hits a creature, the target must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution save or be unable to take reactions until the start of the raider's next turn, the cruel spikes leaving it reeling. A creature already prone fails this save automatically.
Actions
Multiattack. The raider makes two spiked maul attacks, or one maul attack and shoves a creature within 5 ft. (DC 12 Strength save or knocked prone).
Spiked Maul. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d10+2) bludgeoning damage plus 2 (1d4) piercing damage from the spikes.
Hurled Rock. Ranged Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d8+1) bludgeoning damage.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Bully's Roar. Once per turn as a bonus action, the raider snarls at an adjacent creature; that creature must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom save or have disadvantage on its next attack roll against the raider.
A thick-shouldered goblin hefts a maul bristling with spikes, its scrap armour lashed tight and its jaw set in a permanent sneer.
Goblin Raider 3, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEKnock Flat (signature). Once per short rest, Goblin Raider 3 makes a mighty swing; on a hit the target is knocked prone, setting up allies to gang the downed foe.
Actions
Club. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8+2) bludgeoning damage.
Reactions
Brace. When shoved or moved against its will, Goblin Raider 3 digs in; it halves the forced movement and is not knocked prone.
A barrel-chested goblin who clears the way with a club and a grin missing most of its teeth.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open by shoving a frontliner prone, then maul it while it cannot react. Use Bully's Roar to blunt the toughest attacker. Run it as the anchor of a raider pack; alone it is just a slow target.
Smash into the front line, lock down a key PC's reactions with Bone-Breaker, and shove others prone for the pack. Field it beside a goblin leader and a screen of lighter raiders.
Bull through the party's defensive line so a bigger threat can reach the back. Keep PCs prone and reaction-locked. This is a breacher beside a flagship boss, not a solo encounter.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Goblin Raider 3?
It is a CR 2 add-on at its native Tier 1 (AC 13, HP 49). Tier 2 (~CR 6) and Tier 3 (~CR 11) versions are included with identical traits and scaled numbers.
Can Goblin Raider 3 be a companion or ally?
Yes, as muscle. This maul-swinging bruiser makes a serviceable bodyguard or door-breaker if kept fed and feared. Use the bound companion Krunch for a tamer version, or play the Raider as a thuggish hireling who bullies the rest of the party's underlings.
How does it differ from the other goblin raiders?
This is the heavy of the pack: more Strength and HP, a spiked maul, and the Bone-Breaker trait that locks down reactions and floors prone foes. It sets up kills for lighter raiders rather than skirmishing or flanking itself.
