Goblin Shaman 3
Goblin Shaman 3 — The Encounter
Branch-staff seer who binds the wild green spirits · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Goblin Shaman 3
Not every goblin shaman speaks to the dead; this one speaks to the living green. It is a seer of root and thorn, a goblin that learned its craft not in the tunnels but in the brakes and bogs above them, and it carries a forked branch said to have grown from the heart of a strangled grove. The warband suffers it because the wild does what it asks: thickets close around fleeing prey, the earth sprouts thorns under a charging line, and the sick are mended with poultices of moss and spite. It is the most patient and the least cruel of the warren's shamans, valuing balance in its own crooked way, yet it will turn the whole forest against trespassers without remorse. Hunters who corner it find the ground itself rises against them, while the Shaman slips away through the brambles that part only for it.

Goblin Shaman 3
Small humanoid (goblinoid), neutral
CR 2 · 450 XP · GUIDELINENimble Escape. The shaman can take the Disengage or Hide action as a bonus action on each of its turns.
Green-Speaker. The shaman is a Wisdom-based caster (spell save DC 13, +5 to hit with spell attacks). It knows druidcraft, resistance, and poison spray at will and can cast each of the following twice per day: entangle, thunderwave, barkskin, spike growth, and healing word. As its signature rite, once per day it raises its forked branch-staff and the ground itself answers, casting spike growth centered on the warband's enemies without expending a use.
Actions
Multiattack. The shaman makes one staff attack and casts a cantrip, or casts one spell.
Poison Spray. Ranged Spell Attack: targets one creature within 10 ft. The target must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution save or take 7 (2d6) poison damage.
Forked Staff. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d8+1) bludgeoning damage.
Bonus Actions & Reactions

A green-skinned goblin in a fur mantle leans on a forked branch hung with red-wrapped charms, its eyes half-closed as it listens to the growing things.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open with spike growth or entangle across the PCs' approach, then poison spray and thunderwave anyone who pushes through. Kill-priority for the party is the shaman. Pair it with raiders who hold the thorny line.
Wall the field with spike growth and entangle, barkskin a frontline ally, and heal the line. Run it as the controller of a goblin host beside a bigger leader, never solo.
Turn the lair into a maze of thorns while minions funnel PCs into the spikes. Re-cast control whenever the party breaks free. A force-multiplier; field it with a flagship threat, not alone.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Goblin Shaman 3?
It is a CR 2 controller add-on at its native Tier 1 (AC 13, HP 37, spell DC 13). Tier 2 (~CR 6) and Tier 3 (~CR 11) versions are provided with the same spell kit and scaled numbers.
Can Goblin Shaman 3 be a companion or ally?
Yes, and easily, given its more neutral bent. This green-speaker makes a strong ally controller and field healer, walling off threats and mending wounds. Use the bound companion Thornwhistle for a lighter version, or run the Shaman as a forest-warden guide.
How does it differ from the other goblin shamans?
This is the nature-controller, using SRD spells like entangle, spike growth, thunderwave, and barkskin. Where another shaman heals the dead's blessings or screams fire and fear, this one bends the living wild, dominating terrain rather than dealing burst damage.
