Kasdeja — The Encounter

the Serpent's Tutor — who taught the strikes of the serpents and the smiting in the womb. · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.

Who Is Kasdeja

Kasdeja taught the strikes of the serpents and the darkest of the forbidden medicines. It fights as living venom: melting hit-point maximums, poisoning everything it touches, and filling the field with a nest of spectral serpents that no one wants to cross.

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If Kasdeja fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Magic Resistance. Kasdeja has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Venom of the Fall. Kasdeja's attacks ignore resistance to poison damage and reduce the target's hit point maximum by an amount equal to the poison damage dealt (until a long rest). A creature whose hit point maximum is reduced to 0 this way dies.

Actions

Multiattack. Kasdeja makes two Serpent-Strike Fangs attacks and uses Nest of the Fallen if available.

Serpent-Strike Fangs. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (3d6 + 7) piercing damage plus 27 (6d8) poison damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 19 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 minute (repeat save at end of turn).

Nest of the Fallen (Recharge 5–6). A writhing mass of spectral serpents fills a 30-foot radius for 1 minute. The area is difficult terrain, and a creature that enters it or starts its turn there makes a DC 19 Constitution saving throw, taking 36 (8d8) poison damage on a failure, or half on a success.

Bonus Actions & Reactions

Coiling Recoil (Reaction). When Kasdeja is hit by a melee attack, the striking limb is bitten: the attacker takes 22 (4d8) poison damage and must succeed on a DC 19 Constitution save or be poisoned until the end of its next turn.

Legendary Actions (3/Round)

Strike (Costs 1 Action). Kasdeja makes one Serpent-Strike Fangs attack.

Envenom (Costs 2 Actions). One creature within 10 feet must succeed on a DC 19 Constitution save or take 27 (6d8) poison damage and have its hit point maximum reduced by the same amount until it finishes a long rest.

A woman-shaped tangle of serpents and open mouths, every scale a tiny fanged angel. Kasdeja taught the strikes of the serpents and the bitter arts of the womb, and where it passes the ground still hisses.

How It Fights — by Tier

Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.

Tier 1Levels 1-4 · GUIDELINE
AC15HP88 (14d10+11) To-hit+10Save DC17

A vastly diminished echo of Kasdeja for a mid-level party — same role, far softer numbers. It is the host's slow-kill — its poison shrinks the party's maximum HP toward zero and its serpent-nest denies whole zones. Left alive, it wins by attrition no amount of healing fully undoes.

Tier 2Levels 5-10 · GUIDELINE
AC17HP162 (25d10+24) To-hit+12Save DC18

A weakened Kasdeja, still a serious boss. It is the host's slow-kill — its poison shrinks the party's maximum HP toward zero and its serpent-nest denies whole zones. Left alive, it wins by attrition no amount of healing fully undoes.

Tier 3Levels 11-15 · NATIVE
AC19HP295 (45d10+48) To-hit+14Save DC19

It is the host's slow-kill — its poison shrinks the party's maximum HP toward zero and its serpent-nest denies whole zones. Left alive, it wins by attrition no amount of healing fully undoes. This is its true, overpowered form — a legendary-tier fight.

Questions, Asked at the Table

What CR is Kasdeja?

At its native tier Kasdeja is CR 19 — a deliberately overpowered fallen-angel boss. Scale the AC, HP, to-hit, and save DC to the tier line matching your party's level.

How does Kasdeja fight?

It is the host's slow-kill — its poison shrinks the party's maximum HP toward zero and its serpent-nest denies whole zones. Left alive, it wins by attrition no amount of healing fully undoes.

Why is Kasdeja's poison so dangerous?

It doesn't just deal damage — it permanently lowers your hit point maximum until a long rest, and a max reduced to 0 is death. Ordinary healing can't outrun it. Kill Kasdeja quickly or bring greater restoration and poison immunity, because a long fight is a losing one.
