Puffy
tiny mooncake-cradling kit and warren mascot
Puffy — The Encounter
tiny mooncake-cradling kit and warren mascot · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Puffy
Puffy is the smallest of the Lunar Cottontails, barely more than a kit, forever hauling a stamped mooncake nearly its own size. The warren keeps Puffy safe at the heart of the burrow and brings the little one to the moon-festivals as a living mascot of luck. In a fight Puffy is no warrior; it darts underfoot, kicks shins, and flings crumbling mooncake into enemy eyes while the elder hares form a wall around it. Yet the warren fights with redoubled fury whenever Puffy is near, for no cottontail will let the smallest of their kind come to harm. To the Lunar Cottontails, protecting Puffy is protecting the future of the whole warren.
Run Puffy in Sixty Seconds
- It is the heart then dropping Puffy strips the warren's fear immunity and morale.
- Blind with crumbs then Crumb Toss can blind a key attacker on a failed DC 12 save.
- Can't pin it then Skitter lets Puffy Dash or Disengage out of reach every turn.
- Hides in the pack then the elders body-block it, so you must break the screen first.
- Low threat, high value then it barely hurts you but its loss breaks the warband.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Puffy stays buried in the middle of the warband, tossing crumbs to blind a key attacker and skittering away from anyone who closes. Its presence keeps the warren fearless, so the kit is a morale target. It never fights alone.
Run Puffy as the warband's heart: blind threats with Crumb Toss, dart out of reach with Skitter, and keep within 30 ft. so allies shrug off fear. Surround it with elders. It is support, never a solo combatant.
Puffy remains the warband's protected mascot, blinding priority foes and steadying the swarm against fear effects. Let the champions ring it tightly. It fights as part of the warren and is never left alone.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Puffy?
Puffy is a Challenge Rating 2 support kit (450 XP) at its native Tier 1, the warren's smallest mascot. Tier 2 (~CR 6) and Tier 3 (~CR 11) bands are provided so it can keep pace beside tougher cottontails.
How does Puffy fight alongside the rest of the Lunar Cottontails?
Puffy is a morale anchor, not a fighter. It hides at the center of the warband blinding attackers with mooncake crumbs, and its Heartening Treat keeps every nearby cottontail immune to fear. The warren walls it in and fights harder to keep it safe.
Can Puffy be a solo encounter?
No. Puffy is fragile rank-and-file support with no boss kit. It only matters surrounded by the warband, where it props up morale and harasses from underfoot.
