Snowball
small crescent-staff moon-acolyte of the warren
Snowball — The Encounter
small crescent-staff moon-acolyte of the warren · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Snowball
Snowball is one of the youngest moon-acolytes of the Lunar Cottontails, entrusted with a crescent staff carved to hold a sliver of moonlight. While the warren's duelists and skirmishers fight at the front, Snowball hangs back among the burrow-priests, mending wounds and loosing silver bolts at any foe that breaks the line. The warren's faith holds that the moon watches over every hare, and Snowball is its small hands of mercy: quick to bless a wounded packmate, slow to flee, and fiercely loyal. The acolyte's chant rises whenever the moon is full, and the other cottontails fight harder knowing the staff's light is at their backs.
Run Snowball in Sixty Seconds
- Hunt it first then drop Snowball early or the warren keeps healing itself up.
- Heal on a recharge then Soothing Light puts the most-wounded cottontail back in the fight.
- Bless after a kill then Moonlight Blessing hands an ally temp HP every time it scores.
- Chip from range then Lunar Bolt nicks whoever steps out of the front line.
- Keep it screened then it hides behind the warband and is fragile if you reach it.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Snowball stays behind the warren's front rank, healing the most wounded kin with Soothing Light and pelting exposed foes with Lunar Bolt. Kill it early or the warband never stops getting back up. It supports the pack and never fights alone.
Run Snowball as the warband's medic: bless after every kill, recharge healing onto the toughest cottontail, and chip the most dangerous enemy with Lunar Bolt. Keep it ringed by allies so it survives. It heals the flight, never solos.
Snowball becomes the warband's lynchpin healer, topping up champions and spreading temporary hit points so the swarm endures. Bolt anyone who closes on it and lean on allies to body-block. It fights as part of the warren, never alone.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Snowball?
Snowball is a Challenge Rating 2 support caster (450 XP) at its native Tier 1, a small moon-acolyte. Tier 2 (~CR 6) and Tier 3 (~CR 11) bands are provided so it can scale up with your party.
How does Snowball fight alongside the rest of the Lunar Cottontails?
Snowball is the warband's healer and chaplain. It stays behind the front rank, mending wounded cottontails with Soothing Light, handing out temporary hit points after kills, and sniping exposed enemies with Lunar Bolt. Take it out and the whole warren grows brittle.
Can Snowball work as a solo encounter?
No. Snowball is rank-and-file support with no boss kit; it is built to prop up a warband. Field it with several other cottontails and let it keep them alive while they swarm.
