Hildr
gold standard-bearer who wakes the slain and rallies the flight
Hildr — The Encounter
gold standard-bearer who wakes the slain and rallies the flight · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Hildr
Hildr is battle herself in the old tongue, the maiden whose legend wakes the dead each dawn to fight anew. She bears the flight's standard, a gilded spear-haft crowned with a sunburst, and where it stands the Maidens of Valkyria do not stay down. A sister cut from the sky rises at Hildr's word, hauled back onto her feet by the banner's light, and the whole warband fights harder for the certainty that death is not yet final. She is the heart of the host's endurance, not a lone slayer; her power is measured in sisters returned to the line. Skalds say the host that kills Hildr's flight must kill it twice, for she calls the chosen back to the fray.
Run Hildr in Sixty Seconds
- Plant the standard in the center then Rally to the Standard gives nearby sisters advantage on their first attack.
- The instant a sister drops then bonus-action Banner of the Wakeful Slain puts her back up with 3d8+2.
- React with Defiant Cry on a fall then the rest of the flight gains 1d8+1 temp HP.
- Guard the banner then keep Hildr central and never let her charge off alone.

CR 7 · 2,900 XP · GUIDELINEBanner of the Wakeful Slain (signature). Once per turn as a bonus action, Hildr raises her war-standard to revive a fallen ally she can see within 30 feet that dropped to 0 hit points this turn, returning it to its feet with 15 (3d8+2) hit points. She can do this no more than three times before a long rest.
Rally to the Standard. Allies within 20 feet of Hildr have advantage on the first attack roll they make on each of their turns.
Actions
Multiattack. Hildr makes two strikes with her standard-spear.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Hildr stands her standard at the center of a small flight and revives the first sister to fall with Banner of the Wakeful Slain. She fights at reach beside the line. She rallies the warband and never advances alone.
Keep Hildr central so Rally to the Standard covers the most sisters, and spend the banner the instant one drops. Use Defiant Cry to harden the rest when a sister falls. She is the warband's anchor of endurance, not a duelist; protect the standard.
Run Hildr as the flight's undying core: revive fallen sisters each turn, blanket the warband with Rally to the Standard, and steady them with Defiant Cry. She has no legendary actions and wins by keeping the warband on its feet, never by fighting solo.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Hildr?
Hildr is CR 7 at her native Tier 2 (AC 17, HP 130), a standard-bearer revival elite. The tier tables scale her toward CR 2 for low play and CR 11 for high tables.
How does Hildr fight alongside the rest of the Maidens of Valkyria?
She is the flight's undying heart. Her banner revives fallen sisters and grants the warband advantage and temp HP, so the maidens fight fearlessly knowing Hildr can call them back to their feet.
Can Hildr work as a solo boss?
No. She has no legendary actions, and her signature revival only matters with sisters to raise. Alone she is a sturdy support fighter, so she must be fielded with the warband.
