Emmet
bald elder-mystic who summons a spectral grasping hand
Emmet — The Encounter
bald elder-mystic who summons a spectral grasping hand · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Emmet
Emmet is the Methuselans' lone mystic, a scholar of the line who has spent centuries learning what the blade cannot teach. He fights at a remove, conjuring a great spectral hand of force that reaches over the warband to seize whatever its champions cannot catch. Where the deathless line is patience made into steel, Emmet is patience made into study, and his elders prize him as the answer to the foe that flies, hides, or runs. In battle he hangs back behind the wall, grips an enemy in mid-charge, and crushes it slowly while the rest of the line keeps the path to him closed.
Run Emmet in Sixty Seconds
- Stay behind the wall then let the Methuselan line keep enemies off Emmet.
- Grab the threat then Spectral Hand grapples and restrains a foe within 30 ft. (DC 15).
- Crush and drag then Crushing Grip deals 4d8 force, or pull the foe into the warband.
- Slip the press then Step Away (misty step, 3/day) teleports him clear of melee.
Emmet
Medium humanoid (human), neutral
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINESpectral Hand (signature). A Large spectral hand of force hovers near Emmet. As a bonus action he can direct it to grapple a creature within 30 feet (DC 15 Strength save) or to drag a creature it is grappling up to 15 feet. The hand has AC 15 and 20 hit points; while it grapples a creature, that creature is restrained.
Ancient Study. Emmet knows the mage hand, minor illusion, and ray of frost cantrips and can cast misty step three times per day (save DC 15).
Actions
Multiattack. Emmet makes two Force Bolt attacks.
Force Bolt. Ranged Spell Attack: +7 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (3d8+1) force damage.
Crushing Grip. The spectral hand squeezes a creature it is grappling. The target must make a DC 15 Strength save, taking 18 (4d8) force damage on a failure, or half as much on a success.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Step Away (bonus action, 3/day). Emmet casts misty step, teleporting up to 30 feet to a space he can see.
A bald, sharp-eared elder who calls up a vast spectral hand to seize and crush from across the battlefield.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Keep Emmet behind the wall and use the Spectral Hand to grapple a charger or caster, restraining it for the warband. Pelt Force Bolts at anything it cannot reach. Misty Step him clear if pressed. He is the line's reach-control, never a front-liner.
Seize the most dangerous foe with the hand (restrained), drag it away from your allies or into the warband, then Crushing Grip for heavy force damage. Force Bolts cover fliers and runners. Step Away keeps him safe. Run him behind the Methuselan wall as their control caster.
Same kit at higher numbers. Emmet locks the enemy's key threat in the hand and crushes it while the warband holds the line between them. He never stands in melee alone; the deathless wall is his shield.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Emmet?
Emmet is CR 6 at his native Tier 2 (2,300 XP). Scale his AC, HP, to-hit and save DC to the Tier 1 or Tier 3 bands to suit your table.
How does Emmet fight alongside the rest of the Methuselans?
He is the warband's reach-control. From behind the wall, Emmet seizes and crushes the enemy's key threat with his spectral hand while the line keeps melee off him.
Is Emmet a solo boss?
No. He has no legendary actions and is fragile in melee; deploy him behind a Methuselan warband as their control caster.
