Bul Bul
iron-bellied gatebreaker of the panda village-guard
Bul Bul — The Encounter
iron-bellied gatebreaker of the panda village-guard · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Bul Bul
When the painted gates of the panda village must hold, it is Bul Bul who stands in them. The village-guard fights as a single overlapping shell, and Bul Bul is its keystone, a broad-shouldered brawler in lamellar and a tusked belly-mask who refuses to give ground. Younger guards form up behind his bulk, striking past his planted stance while he soaks the first charge. He carries a great gauntlet for breaking shields and a heavy pick for breaking the things behind them. Villagers say he has not been moved from a doorway in living memory, and the cherry-blossom sigil on his plate marks every season he has kept the wall unbroken.
Run Bul Bul in Sixty Seconds
- Plant him in the gap then if he doesn't move he resists nonmagical bludgeoning and won't go prone.
- Open with the Gauntlet Slam then on a failed DC 15 Str save the target is shoved 10 ft. and knocked prone for the guard to swarm.
- Keep allies adjacent then his reaction strike hits anyone who steps next to them.
- When bloodied hold the doorway anyway; his whole value is not moving.
Bul Bul
Medium humanoid (beastfolk), lawful neutral
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINEAnchored Bulk. If Bul Bul does not move on its turn, it has resistance to bludgeoning damage from nonmagical attacks until the start of its next turn and cannot be knocked prone except by a creature two sizes larger.
Guardian's Reach. Bul Bul can use its reaction to make a melee attack against a creature that enters a space within 5 feet of an ally.
Actions
Multiattack. Bul Bul makes two attacks: one with its Gauntlet Slam and one with its Heavy Pick.
Gauntlet Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8+4) bludgeoning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Strength save or be pushed 10 feet and knocked prone.
Heavy Pick. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6+4) piercing damage.
A wall of armored fur, Bul Bul plants himself in the breach and dares the enemy to move him.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Bul Bul plugs a doorway or chokepoint and refuses to step off it, letting weaker villagers stab past him. Run him as the immovable front of the guard, not a chaser. He fights as the shell of the warband, never alone.
Open by planting beside an ally so Anchored Bulk and Guardian's Reach both come online, then punish anyone who crowds the line. Knock the biggest attacker prone with the Gauntlet Slam so the village-guard can swarm it. Hold the gap; let the spear-pandas reach over him.
Anchor the center of the whole village-guard wall and trade reactions for every breach attempt. He is the warband's hinge, never a solo line. Keep two allies adjacent so his Guardian's Reach is always loaded.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Bul Bul?
Bul Bul is CR 6 (2,300 XP) at his native Tier 2, with stat scalings provided for Tier 1 and Tier 3 play.
How does Bul Bul fight alongside the rest of the PON Village?
He is the village-guard's anchor: he plants in the breach so spear- and blade-pandas like Gum Gum and To To can strike past him while he soaks charges. He never operates solo.
Is Bul Bul a boss?
No. He is an elite frontline tank, not a solo threat, and has no legendary actions. Field him as the linchpin of a guard line.
