Chum Chum — The Encounter
straw-hatted prayer-monk of the panda village-guard · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Chum Chum
Chum Chum is the gentle heart of the panda village-guard, a barefoot monk in a broad straw hat who trades blows only to keep his charges standing. He moves quickly along the back of the line, beads clicking, laying a steadying hand on the fearful and a mending one on the wounded. The village raised him in the meditation halls beneath the cherry trees, and he treats the guard as his congregation; every strike he throws ripples into a healed comrade. When the brawlers like Bo Bo and Bul Bul wade into the press, Chum Chum keeps them upright from behind. Without him the wall holds, but it bleeds.
Run Chum Chum in Sixty Seconds
- Tuck him behind the line then allies within 15 ft. get advantage vs. fear and charm.
- Open with palm-strikes then each hit also heals a chosen ally within 30 ft. for 1d8+1.
- Hold Mending Chant then dump 2d8+4 healing on whoever is about to drop.
- When an ally fails a save spend Steadying Word to let them reroll.

Open-Palm Strike. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8+4) bludgeoning damage, and Chum Chum can choose one ally it can see within 30 feet to regain 5 (1d8+1) hit points.
Mending Chant (Recharge 5-6). Chum Chum touches one creature within 5 feet. The target regains 13 (2d8+4) hit points and is freed of one disease or the poisoned condition.

Steadying Word. When an ally Chum Chum can see within 30 feet fails a saving throw, Chum Chum can use its reaction to grant that ally a reroll, using the new result.
Hands open and feet bare, Chum Chum walks the line mending what the brawlers cannot soak.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Keep Chum Chum a step behind the brawlers, striking when safe so his palm-strike tops off a wounded ally. Spend reactions to reroll allies' failed saves. He is the warband's support, never a front-liner.
Open by parking within 15 feet of the guard so Calming Presence shields the line from fear, then trickle healing through Open-Palm Strikes. Save Mending Chant for whoever is closest to dropping. Use Steadying Word on the tank's failed saves.
Chum Chum becomes the warband's anchor of endurance, weaving between brawlers to keep the whole village-guard standing. He fights as their medic, never as a solo. Protect him; if he falls the line crumbles.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.
