Mehujael
braced glaive-bearer warding the brood's line
Mehujael — The Encounter
braced glaive-bearer warding the brood's line · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Mehujael
Mehujael is a line-warden of the Seeds of the Serpent, the cursed brood that traded mortal blood for the old wyrm's scales. He fights with a long glaive held two-handed, sweeping a wall of reach the lighter Seeds shelter behind. The grimoires say he was a disciplined soldier before the serpent's bargain hollowed him, and that discipline still shows in how he never breaks stance and never yields a step. He sets his feet, threatens everything that nears, and lets the brood strike from the safety his blade buys them. To pass him is to take a venomed cut for the privilege.
Run Mehujael in Sixty Seconds
- 10-foot reach + Brace then stepping toward him costs you a venomed glaive hit - approach from his flank or with reach of your own.
- Reach Guard then Seeds beside him get half cover from your archers - flush them out or move your line.
- Disciplined Footing then he can't be knocked prone - don't waste trip effects on him.
- Sweeping Cut then if you bunch up he arcs everyone - spread out before he recharges it.
- He is the brood's wall then he holds the choke while skirmishers stab past; break the flank, not the front.
Mehujael
Medium humanoid (serpentfolk), neutral evil
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINEReach Guard. Mehujael's glaive has reach 10 feet. While he wields it, any ally within 5 feet of him has half cover against ranged attacks from beyond his reach.
Disciplined Footing. Mehujael can't be knocked prone while he has at least 1 hit point and is not incapacitated.
Actions
Multiattack. Mehujael makes two Glaive attacks.
Glaive. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d10 + 4) slashing damage plus 7 (2d6) poison damage.
Sweeping Cut (Recharge 6). Mehujael sweeps the glaive in a 10-foot arc. Each creature in that area must make a DC 15 Dexterity save, taking 16 (3d10) slashing damage on a failure, or half as much on a success.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Brace (Reaction). When a creature enters Mehujael's reach, he makes one Glaive attack against it.
A broad serpent-warrior holds a venom-etched glaive level across his body, feet planted wide. He guards the brood's line as if rooted to the earth.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Plant Mehujael at the front so his 10-foot reach and Brace punish anyone closing on the brood. Keep lighter Seeds at his side under Reach Guard's cover; he holds, they sting.
Use him as the warband's wall: Brace on the first hero to step in, Sweeping Cut when several bunch up. Disciplined Footing means knockdowns won't move him, so the brood can fight from behind his guard all combat.
Anchor the brood's line at Tier 3, never solo. Reach and Brace lock down a chokepoint while the skirmishing Seeds dart out and back under his cover; he simply refuses to be displaced.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Mehujael?
Natively CR 6 (Tier 2, 2,300 XP). Use the tier table to set him to CR 2 or CR 11 for your party.
How does Mehujael fight alongside the rest of the Seeds of the Serpent?
He is the brood's line-warden, holding a chokepoint with reach and Brace while Reach Guard shelters the lighter Seeds beside him. They skirmish out and back from behind the wall his glaive maintains.
Is Mehujael solo-capable?
No - he is a defensive elite, not a boss. His Reach Guard and zoning only matter with a warband fighting behind him.
