Mycelion
twin-hammer heavy infantry of the fungal warband
Mycelion — The Encounter
twin-hammer heavy infantry of the fungal warband · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Mycelion
The Mycelion is the anvil of the fungal host, bred thick and low to hold the center while quicker caps strike from the flanks. Twin stone hammers let it batter two foes at once, and its armor is its own hardened body, grown plate by plate over seasons. Grove-tellers say a wall of Mycelions has never been pushed back uphill; they sink their root-feet, weather the charge, and answer every blow with a bash of their own. When one is struck deep, its cap bursts in a cloud of choking spore, punishing whoever drew the wound. It is no leader and no hunter, only the immovable middle the warband forms around.
Run Mycelion in Sixty Seconds
- Plant the line then make enemies break against it rather than chasing.
- Shove on every hit then knock foes off ledges, lines, and objectives.
- When bloodied then Spore Bloom poisons everyone clinging to it.
- Punish melee then Hammer Bash anyone who dares trade swings.
Mycelion
Medium plant, neutral
CR 2 · 450 XP · GUIDELINESturdy Footing. The Mycelion has advantage on saving throws and ability checks made to avoid being knocked prone or shoved.
Spore Bloom. The first time the Mycelion is bloodied, a burst of spores erupts from its cap. Each creature within 5 feet must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution save or be poisoned until the end of its next turn.
Actions
Multiattack. The Mycelion makes two Stone Hammer attacks.
Stone Hammer. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d10+3) bludgeoning damage. On a hit, the target must succeed on a DC 13 Strength save or be pushed 5 feet away.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Hammer Bash. Reaction, when a creature within 5 feet hits the Mycelion with a melee attack. The Mycelion makes one Stone Hammer attack against that creature.
A barrel-chested fungal soldier in plated rind, a stone maul in each fist, planting itself like a stump and daring the line to break against it.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Plant it in the line and let enemies come. Swing twice, shove with each hit to break formations, and let Spore Bloom punish the first attacker to bloody it. Hammer Bash makes engaging it costly.
Anchor the pack's center while Sporelarks screen and Mosskels flank. Shove foes off objectives and absorb the charge so lighter Shroomkin can strike exposed sides.
Form a shield wall of Mycelions and grind forward as the warband's hammer. Never advance alone; its job is to hold ground and trade blows while the colony works the flanks.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Mycelion?
Mycelion is CR 2 (450 XP) at its native Tier 1. Use AC 16 / ~126 HP for Tier 2 or AC 18 / ~190 HP for Tier 3; the traits stay the same and only the numbers scale.
How does Mycelion fight alongside the rest of the Shroomkin?
It is the anvil. The Mycelion holds the center and absorbs charges while Sporelarks screen and Mosskels and Sporothorns hit the flanks. The warband forms its line around these heavy caps.
Is Mycelion a solo threat?
No. It is slow and purely defensive, with no legendary actions. It shines in a wall of its kin, not alone.
