Jimbo — The Encounter

grey-maned chieftain of the wandering folk · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.

Who Is Jimbo

Jimbo is chieftain of the Bobbits, the grey-maned elder whose word turns a scatter of road-folk into a war-band. He no longer charges first, but no Bobbit fights worse for it, because his Chieftain's Command and Rallying Cry can wring one more push out of an exhausted line. The carved throne he sits is built from the boards of the band's first wagon, hauled along every road they have walked, and to sit it is to hold the memory of the whole people. Jimbo marks a foe and his warriors fall on it as one; he calls a chant and the wounded find their feet again. He fights as a commander, never a champion, and the Bobbits guard him as fiercely as he has always guarded them.

Brave. Jimbo has advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Chieftain's Command. Allies within 30 ft. of Jimbo that can hear him add +2 to their attack rolls against any creature Jimbo has attacked since his last turn.

Actions

Multiattack. Jimbo makes two Battleaxe attacks.

Battleaxe. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6+5) slashing damage.

Rallying Cry (Recharge 5-6). Jimbo bellows an old war-chant. Each ally within 30 ft. gains 10 temporary hit points and can immediately move up to its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Bonus Actions & Reactions

Mark the Foe (Bonus Action). Jimbo points out a creature he can see within 30 ft.; the next attack by an ally against that target has advantage.

He rules the Bobbits from a camp-throne of carved wagon-wood, his battle-axe always within reach of his hand.

How It Fights — by Tier

Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.

Tier 1Levels 1-4 · GUIDELINE
AC13HP55 To-hit+4Save DC13

Keep Jimbo behind the warband and let him buff: Mark the Foe to give a striker advantage, then Multiattack the same target so Chieftain's Command lights up the whole line. Save Rallying Cry for when the Bobbits are bloodied.

Tier 2Levels 5-10 · NATIVE
AC16HP110 To-hit+6Save DC14

Run him as the warband's commander, not a frontline brawler. Position him within 30 ft. of the most kin so his command bonuses and temp HP reach everyone.

Tier 3Levels 11-15 · GUIDELINE
AC18HP200 To-hit+8Save DC16

In a full Bobbit muster he is the general, never a solo. Protect him with Ringo and Lotso while he marks targets and rallies the line every few rounds.

Questions, Asked at the Table

What CR is Jimbo?

Jimbo is CR 6 at his native Tier 2 (AC 16, 110 HP). Scale down to AC 13/55 HP for Tier 1 or up to AC 18/200 HP for Tier 3.

How does Jimbo fight alongside the rest of the Bobbits?

He is the chieftain and force-multiplier: he marks foes for advantage, buffs attacks with Chieftain's Command, and rallies the bloodied line with temp HP.

Is Jimbo a solo boss?

No. His whole kit is buffs and commands for the warband; run him guarded at the center, never alone.
