Elenril
banner-bearing rapier herald of the Visarian court
Elenril — The Encounter
banner-bearing rapier herald of the Visarian court · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Elenril
Elenril carries the colors of the Visarian house and the voice that turns a scatter of arrogant duelists into a fighting line. He is more herald than headsman, yet his rapier is no costume piece; he fences as smoothly as he flatters. In battle he stays just behind the front, banner high, urging the flyers to dive and the shield-bearers to hold, his cold instructions threaded with courtly contempt. The warband performs better with him present and knows it, which is the only loyalty the decadent court understands. Strike the banner down and the nobles squabble; leave it raised and they kill in beautiful, terrible unison.
Run Elenril in Sixty Seconds
- Kill priority then players should target the banner; for Elenril, stay back and keep it up.
- Open with the banner raised then nearby nobles get +1d8 and save advantage.
- Each turn then Inspiring Command gives an allied noble a free reaction attack.
- If engaged then Fancy Footwork lets him fence and retreat without opportunity attacks.
Elenril
Medium humanoid (elf), lawful evil
CR 5 · 1,800 XP · GUIDELINERallying Banner (signature). Allied nobles within 30 feet that can see Elenril's raised banner have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened, and the first time each turn one of them hits a creature, it deals an extra 4 (1d8) damage.
Fancy Footwork. When Elenril makes a melee attack against a creature, that creature can't make opportunity attacks against him for the rest of the turn.
Actions
Multiattack. Elenril makes two rapier attacks.
Rapier. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (1d8+4 plus 1d6) piercing damage.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Inspiring Command (Bonus Action). One allied noble within 30 feet that can hear Elenril can use its reaction to make one weapon attack.
He raises the house banner in one hand and a slim rapier in the other, conducting the warband like a cruel orchestra.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Hang back with the banner up, buffing nearby nobles, and use Inspiring Command to give an ally an extra attack. Fence only when cornered.
Stay within 30 ft of the warband so the banner's damage bonus and saves apply. Each turn, Inspiring Command hands a duelist a free swing while Elenril picks off stragglers. Keep him guarded.
Run him as the warband's conductor: kill priority for the party should be the banner itself, because while it stands every other noble hits harder. Never field him alone.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Elenril?
He is built as CR 5 at his native Tier 2 (AC 16, 102 HP). Scale to Tier 1 or Tier 3 with the tier table.
How does Elenril fight alongside the rest of the Visarian Nobles?
He is the warband's support herald: his raised banner buffs every noble within 30 feet and Inspiring Command feeds them free attacks, so he stays back and conducts the fight.
Is Elenril a boss?
No. He is a wingless support elite (solo_capable=false). His value is the buff aura, so he must be fielded with the rest of the warband.
