Beef Pares
Beef Pares — The Encounter
Diwata of the green wild, crowned in living bloom · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Beef Pares
Among the deep groves of the islands dwell the diwata, guardian-spirits of forest and field who answer to no court and bow to no crown. This one wears the grove as her gown: orchids at her hip, climbing vines about her limbs, the bark of old trees grown into her flesh. Hunters and woodcutters once left rice and honey at her roots and asked leave before they swung an axe, for the diwata gives freely to the courteous and withers the fields of the greedy. She blesses the gentle with full harvests and clean water; she curses the cruel with rot, fever, and vines that drag the trespasser down into the loam. She does not hate humankind, only its arrogance. Slight her grove and she will not roar; she will simply let the forest close behind you, until the path home is gone and the green has swallowed your name.
Run Beef Pares in Sixty Seconds
- Hold her at 15-ft. reach — she wants to grapple-and-curse from the treeline, never to be surrounded. Bonus-action teleport to a plant means melee can almost never pin her.
- Open with Blossom Curse on the tightest cluster (4d8 poison + poisoned), then Thorn Lash to grapple and drag the nearest caster out of position.
- Kill-priority: anyone who burns or chops plants or who hits her — Verdant Reprisal lashes them on their own turn, so torch-and-axe parties bleed for it.
- When bloodied, stop trading blows: teleport behind the grove, curse the cluster, and let grappling vines and minions stall while she recovers tempo.
- Three ways to run her: (1) wronged grove-guardian who can be appeased with an apology and offering, (2) ambush controller in dense wood with a tikbalang or beast pack, (3) lair-tier terrain boss paired with a larger fey threat.
Beef Pares
Medium fey, neutral good
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINEVerdant Reprisal. The diwata is one with her grove. When a creature she can see within 30 ft. cuts, burns, or fells a plant, or damages her, she may use her reaction to lash it with a thorned vine (see Reactions). The wild remembers every wound.
Speak with Beasts and Plants. The diwata can communicate with beasts and plants as if they shared a language.
Magic Resistance. The diwata has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Actions
Multiattack. The diwata makes two Thorn Lash attacks, or uses Blossom Curse and makes one Thorn Lash attack.
Thorn Lash. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (3d8 + 4) piercing damage, and if the target is Large or smaller it is grappled (escape DC 15) by clutching vines.
Blossom Curse. The diwata exhales spores at one creature she can see within 30 ft. The target must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, taking 18 (4d8) poison damage on a failure, or half as much on a success. On a failure the target is also poisoned until the end of its next turn.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Step Through the Green (Bonus Action). The diwata magically teleports up to 30 ft. to an unoccupied space she can see that is within 5 ft. of a plant, tree, or natural growth.
A barefoot forest spirit clad in living vines, flowers, and bark, her pointed ears swept back and her skin shifting with the colors of the canopy. Where she walks, the wild leans in to listen.
Beef Pares, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINETrailspinner (signature). Creatures of the companion's choice within 30 ft. that try to track or navigate away from it have disadvantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks; paths seem to bend back on themselves.
Actions
Hoof and Hand. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
Reactions
Bolt of the Wild. When a creature ends its turn within 10 ft., the companion may move up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
A long-limbed horse-headed trickster sworn to the diwata's grove, herding the lost in circles until the forest decides whether to let them go.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open from cover with Blossom Curse on the clustered front rank, then teleport away with Step Through the Green so melee can't pin her. Make whoever first hacks a plant or hits her pay via Verdant Reprisal. Pair her with a beast pack or grove minions; she is a controller, not a brawler.
Lead with Thorn Lash to grapple the squishiest reachable caster, then Blossom Curse the cluster behind them. Kill-priority is anyone setting the forest alight or felling trees — Verdant Reprisal punishes them every time. Bonus-action teleport keeps her at 15-ft. reach and out of full melee; pair her with a tikbalang or beasts so the party can't all converge.
Run her as a lair guardian in dense wood: open Blossom Curse on the densest cluster, Thorn-Lash-grapple a striker, and Step Through the Green every round so she's never surrounded. Reserve Verdant Reprisal for whoever brings fire or an axe. She is not a solo boss — pair her with a bigger fey threat or a swarm of grove beasts and let the terrain do half the work.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Beef Pares?
Her home tier is Tier 2 (CR 6, ~2,300 XP): AC 16, 120 HP, +7 to hit, save DC 15. Scaled stat blocks are provided for Tier 1 (levels 1-4) and Tier 3 (levels 11-15) so she fits any table — traits and actions stay identical, only the numbers move.
Can Beef Pares be a companion or ally?
Yes. Appease the diwata — with an honest apology and an offering left at her roots — and she may grant safe passage, beast-and-plant counsel, or full harvests. As written she is a wary neutral-good guardian, so she allies with the courteous and curses the greedy rather than fighting for hire.
Is this a recognizable D&D creature?
No. She is drawn wholly from public-domain Filipino folklore — the diwata is a nature-guardian spirit of forest and field, and her bound tikbalang is a horse-headed trickster of the same mythology. The identity is clean, with no Wizards of the Coast Product Identity involved.
