Elowyn
Elowyn — The Encounter
Horned huntress of the crimson wood, her arrows never stray · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Elowyn
Among the riders of the crimson wood, none are named in the hunters' oaths so often as Elowyn. The horns that crown her are no ornament but a birthright of the deep fey courts, marking her sworn to the chase until the quarry falls or the moon sets. Her bow is shaped from the shed antlers of a stag she stalked for a year and a day, and they say the wood remembers every arrow it has spent. She runs ahead of any war-band, never with it, marking one throat among a thousand and never losing it in the press. Villagers leave a bowl of red wine at the treeline when they wish a thief gone; by the next dawn the thief is gone, and the wine untouched, and a single fletched arrow stands quivering in the doorpost as her only word. She bows to no crown of men. The wood is her warrant, and the wood does not forgive trespass.
Run Elowyn in Sixty Seconds
- She is a striker, not a tank — hold her at range, mark a quarry every turn, and treat positioning as her real weapon. The +2d6 quarry bonus makes one PC her favorite victim.
- Open from cover at long range with Hunter's Mark on the lowest-AC backliner, then three shots before the party closes the gap.
- Kill-priority is the backline — casters and healers. She ignores the front-line brute and shoots past it.
- When bloodied, Fey Step out of melee, fire Volley into the cluster chasing her, and keep kiting toward terrain that breaks line of sight.
- Three ways to run her: a lone forest sniper picking off a party from the trees; the ranged half of a hunt-pack screened by melee minions; or a lair defender with Greythorn flushing prey into her arrows.
Elowyn
Medium fey (elf), chaotic neutral
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINEHunter's Mark. Elowyn designates one creature she can see as her quarry at the start of her turn (no action). Her weapon attacks against the quarry deal an extra 7 (2d6) damage, and she has advantage on Perception and Survival checks to track it. She can mark a new quarry on a later turn.
Fey Step. When Elowyn moves on her turn, difficult terrain costs her no extra movement and she does not provoke opportunity attacks from any creature she can see. The crimson wood opens before her and folds shut behind.
Actions
Multiattack. Elowyn makes three Hornbow Shot attacks, or two attacks with her Antler Glaive.
Hornbow Shot. Ranged Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d8+5) piercing damage, plus 7 (2d6) damage if the target is her quarry.
Antler Glaive. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6+5) slashing damage, plus 7 (2d6) damage if the target is her quarry.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Volley (Recharge 5-6). As a bonus action, Elowyn looses a fan of arrows. Each creature of her choice within 30 ft. of a point she can see must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 18 (4d8) piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success.
Uncanny Dodge. When an attacker she can see hits her with an attack, Elowyn uses her reaction to halve the attack's damage against her.
A horned elf maiden poised mid-draw, her ornate antler-bow bent to full tension, crimson-and-gold leathers cinched for the chase. She is the loosed string between hunter and kill.
Elowyn, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEPack Tactics (signature). Elowyn has advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the lynx's allies is within 5 ft. of the creature and isn't incapacitated.
Actions
Rake. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8+3) slashing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 13 Strength save or be knocked prone.
Reactions
Flush the Quarry. When a creature within 5 ft. of Elowyn tries to move away, the lynx may make a Rake attack against it as a reaction.
A scarred forest lynx that runs at Elowyn's heel, driving prey into her line of fire and pinning what tries to flee.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open by marking the squishiest PC as quarry and shooting from max range; she kites, never standing still. Save Volley for when two or more PCs bunch up. Run her as a sniper who picks off backline casters; pair her with melee minions to screen her.
Open with Hunter's Mark on the lowest-AC striker and three shots before anyone closes. Use Fey Step to slip melee and keep range; Uncanny Dodge eats the one big hit she can't dodge. Kill-priority is healers and casters. She is an add-on, not a boss — pair her with a frontline brute or a small band of skirmishers.
She becomes the lethal ranged threat in a lair or war-band: mark, three shots, Fey Step away, repeat. Volley clears clustered summons and zones the battlefield. Kill-priority stays on backline. Do not run her solo against a high-tier party — give her minions to screen and pair her with a bigger threat that forces the party to choose targets.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Elowyn?
Her native build is CR 6 (2,300 XP), tuned for a Tier 2 party of levels 5-10. The stat block also gives scaled Tier 1 (~CR 2) and Tier 3 (~CR 11) numbers so you can drop her into any table by swapping AC, HP, to-hit, and save DC.
Can Elowyn be a companion or ally?
Yes. As a fey huntress with her own code, she makes a striking ranged ally or guide through wild country — use her action line as written and let her mark the party's most dangerous foe each round. Her bound lynx Greythorn can join the party as a second pair of teeth.
Is Elowyn a boss or an add-on?
An add-on. She has no legendary actions and a 4-PC party will out-act her if she stands alone. Run her as the ranged element of a larger fight — paired with a frontline threat or a pack of skirmishers — not as a solo centerpiece.
