Kharvek
Kharvek — The Encounter
Gaunt void-reaver of the silver between worlds · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Kharvek
Kharvek is no chieftain, only a sworn blade of a marauding host that sails the silver void where worlds drift like islands. Such reavers are bred to discipline and contempt: they descend in raiding parties, never alone, sweeping a landing with leveled glaives before the defenders can form a line. The yellow pallor of his skin is the mark of long years far from any sun, and the keen silver edge he carries was quenched in starless cold so that it cuts both flesh and thought. He fights as he was drilled to fight, holding the long reach of his weapon and punishing any who close the gap, his spiked buckler a second weapon. Captured raiders speak little and lie often, for their loyalty is to the host and to the cruel captains who lead it. Kharvek expects to die at someone's side, blade out, never cornered, always covering the warrior beside him.
Run Kharvek in Sixty Seconds
- Hold the reach. Kharvek's glaive hits at 10 ft. Stay back and force PCs to spend movement closing — every step in can trigger Sweeping Riposte.
- Open with a held line. Plant him in a choke or doorway and Multiattack the first body through; do not let melee PCs feel safe at 5 ft.
- Kill-priority: the back row. He wants the healer or caster — Shield Spike to knock prone, then glaive them on the ground.
- When bloodied, he does not flee; he tightens to the nearest ally and keeps ripostes flying to cover them.
- Three ways to run him: (1) line-holder for a raider pack, (2) bodyguard reaction-wall beside a caster boss, (3) paired duelist with a second reaver for overlapping ripostes.
Kharvek
Medium humanoid, lawful evil
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINEReach of the Glaive. Kharvek's silver-edged polearm has reach 10 ft. Any creature that enters or leaves that reach for the first time on a turn provokes no opportunity attack from others, but Kharvek may strike it as a reaction (see Reactions).
Void-Tempered Sinew. Kharvek has advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed, and his weapon attacks count as magical for overcoming resistance.
Actions
Multiattack. Kharvek makes two glaive attacks, or one glaive attack and one Shield Spike.
Silver Glaive. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6+3) slashing damage plus 7 (2d6) psychic damage as the keen edge bites at the mind.
Shield Spike. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8+3) piercing damage, and a Medium or smaller target must succeed on a DC 14 Strength save or be pushed 5 ft. and knocked prone.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Sweeping Riposte (Reaction). When a creature Kharvek can see enters or leaves the reach of his glaive, he makes one Silver Glaive attack against it.
A tall, hollow-cheeked warrior with sallow yellow skin and pointed ears, Kharvek plants his spiked buckler and levels a silver-bladed glaive longer than a man is tall. He is a foot-soldier of a raiding host that strides the silver gulf between worlds.
Kharvek, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEPhalanx Drill (signature). While an ally is within 5 ft. of Kharvek, both he and that ally gain a +1 bonus to AC.
Actions
Silver Glaive. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6+3) slashing damage plus 4 (1d8) psychic damage.
Reactions
Covering Sweep. When an enemy moves within 10 ft. of an ally Kharvek can see, he makes one Silver Glaive attack against that enemy.
Sworn to the one who freed him, Kharvek fights shoulder-to-shoulder, his reach keeping foes off his charge.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open from 10 ft. away with the glaive so the party eats a hit before they can reach him; never let them inside. If two PCs cluster, line them up so Sweeping Riposte punishes the first to step in. He is too tough for a single low-level PC, so deploy him as the line-holder for a pack of weaker raiders.
Open by holding the choke point and Multiattacking the first PC to enter reach. Kill-priority is the healer or caster — Shield Spike to knock them prone, then glaive them while they crawl. Pair him with a bigger threat (an astral captain or void-touched horror); his reach and ripostes wall off the melee while the boss does the heavy lifting.
Run him in pairs or as a raiding line in a lair: two Kharveks ten feet apart cover each other with overlapping Sweeping Riposte, so any approach draws fire. Focus the squishiest target and use Shield Spike to keep it prone. He is not a solo boss at this tier — slot him beside a true commander so the captain casts while his glaives hold the doorway.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Kharvek?
Kharvek is built as a CR 6 (2,300 XP) skirmisher at his native Tier 2, tuned for a party of levels 5-10. Tier 1 and Tier 3 stat lines are provided to scale him to levels 1-4 or 11-15 without changing his traits or actions.
Can Kharvek be a companion or ally?
Yes. The 'Kharvek, Bound' profile turns him into a disciplined frontline ally who shields whoever freed him — Phalanx Drill grants mutual +1 AC and Covering Sweep lets him strike enemies that close on his allies.
Is Kharvek a solo boss?
No. He is an add-on martial reaver, not a centerpiece. Run him in raiding lines or as a bodyguard beside a bigger threat; his reach and reaction strikes wall off a battlefield but he lacks the action-economy kit to carry a fight against a full party alone.
