Haste — the First Step
The beginning that never ends. The first Herald of Prince Seere’s Court.
The Lore of Haste
Born from Seere’s initial motion. The first moment he moved — before speed, before direction, before purpose — that single twitch of intent didn’t come with him. It stayed behind. It grew legs. It learned to walk.
But it only knows the first step.
It takes one step. Then another first step. Then another. It never reaches a second step. It is always, eternally, beginning. Haste is the reason Seere can never stop — because the beginning of his movement is still happening, somewhere behind him, trying to catch up.
Where Seere passes, he passes too quickly. He crosses the whole earth between one heartbeat and the next, and a thing moving that fast sheds pieces of itself — a moment it did not need, a speed it set down, a glance it forgot to take back. Those discarded fragments do not die. They linger where he left them, half-made, and in time they stand up.
Role in the Court
Haste is the first of the four Heralds — the things Seere dropped while moving. The Heralds are fragments of his speed, his presence, his perception that couldn’t keep up and took form instead. They serve him not from love or oath, but because they are incomplete — each a single function of the Prince, severed from the whole, forever trying to rejoin the body that outran them.
Among the Heralds, Haste holds a unique burden: it is the origin point. Without Haste, there is no Speed, no Flicker, no Glitch. The first step is the cause of all the others. And yet it is the one furthest from Seere — because it was the first thing he left behind.
