Catrine Cheetah Jons — The Encounter

Cheetah-folk firebrand who runs down the fleeing · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.

Who Is Catrine Cheetah Jons

In the cat-ruled realm of Fehnaria, where the demi-feline gentry hold the high seats, Catrine Cheetah Jons keeps to the hunting roads rather than the marble halls. She is reckoned among the swiftest of the spotted clans, a runner who is upon you before the horn that warned of her has finished sounding. The torch she carries is no mere light: its fire is fed in shrine-flames sworn to the Spirit of Pride, and those she marks with it seldom outrun the burning. Soldiers of the Pangcat lancers speak of her as a closer of routs, the one sent to overtake the fled and the broken before they reach safe walls. She owes no banner her loyalty save the chase itself, taking coin from chieftain or mercenary guild alike. Where the lion-kings command, Catrine simply runs, and the running is the law she answers to.

Cheetah's Burst. On her turn, Catrine can move up to double her speed in a straight line. If she ends this movement adjacent to a creature, the first weapon attack she makes against it this turn has advantage. She can do this only on a turn she has not already used the Dash action.

Keen Smell. Catrine has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell, and she cannot be surprised while she can smell.

Actions

Multiattack. Catrine makes two attacks: one with her warhammer and one with her flaming brand.

Warhammer. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8+3) bludgeoning damage.

Flaming Brand. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6+2) bludgeoning damage plus 4 (1d8) fire damage. A creature reduced to 0 hit points by this attack catches fire, taking 2 (1d4) fire damage at the start of each of its turns until it or an ally uses an action to douse the flames.

Bonus Actions & Reactions

Pounce (Bonus Action). If Catrine moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature on her turn, she can make one warhammer attack as a bonus action; on a hit the target must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

A lean cheetah-woman caught mid-sprint, warhammer trailing behind and a brand of living fire thrust forward, every muscle wound to break into a killing run.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6+3) piercing damage, and if Catrine is within 5 feet of the same target the bite deals an extra 3 (1d6) damage.

Reactions

Trip the Prey. When a creature within 5 feet of Catrine Cheetah Jons tries to move away, it must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw or fall prone.

A half-tamed hunting cat that runs flank to Catrine, herding the quarry into the path of her brand.

How It Fights — by Tier

Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.

Tier 1Levels 1-4 · NATIVE
AC14HP45 (7d8+14) To-hit+4Save DC12

Open with Cheetah's Burst to close from off-screen, then Pounce to knock the squishiest target prone before Multiattacking with hammer and brand. Kill-priority is fleeing or low-HP foes — she exists to run them down. Pair her with a slower bruiser or caster boss; she's the pursuit, not the wall.

Tier 2Levels 5-10 · GUIDELINE
AC16HP120 (16d8+48) To-hit+6Save DC14

Run her as an elite skirmisher beside heavier minions: burst in, Pounce a backliner prone, then full Multiattack with the burning brand to stack fire ticks. If bloodied she peels off, Dashes 60 ft. to safety, and re-enters the next round. Best paired with a stationary anchor so she can flank freely.

Tier 3Levels 11-15 · GUIDELINE
AC18HP200 (24d8+96) To-hit+8Save DC16

Field her as the fast-strike lieutenant of a larger threat or in her own lair of huntsfolk. She tags the party's mobile damage-dealer, knocks them prone, and burns them down while minions hold the line. Do not run her solo — without a bigger anchor a full party simply gangs her before she can capitalize on speed.

Questions, Asked at the Table

What CR is Catrine Cheetah Jons?

Natively CR 2 (450 XP), a Tier 1 skirmisher. Scaled stat blocks are provided for Tier 2 (~CR 6) and Tier 3 (~CR 11) so she can ride alongside tougher encounters; the traits stay identical and only the numbers move.

Can Catrine be a companion or ally?

Yes. As a mercenary loyal only to the chase, she makes a natural hireling or guide for a party that needs something — or someone — run down. Emberfang, her hunting cat, is statted as a built-in companion if you want the pair to fight as a duo.

How do I keep her from being a one-trick charger?

Use terrain. Give her long open lanes to abuse Cheetah's Burst and Pounce, and pillars or rubble she can break line of sight behind when bloodied. Played as hit-and-run rather than stand-and-fight, her speed and the lingering fire of the brand carry far more menace than her modest hit points suggest.
