Forest Princess
Forest Princess — The Encounter
Hooded daughter of the wildwood, blade quick as a thrush · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Forest Princess
They name her the Forest Princess, though no court ever crowned her. The deep wood took her as a foundling and raised her on root and rain, and now the green answers when she runs. Hunters who cross her glades speak of a hooded girl glimpsed between trunks, gone before an arrow can be nocked, her serrated blade already at the throat of whatever she has chosen to follow. She marks her quarry the way a thrush marks a worm, and from that moment the chase is already lost to the prey. She is no tyrant of the wildwood but its quiet warden, granting safe passage to the lost and the gentle while cutting down poachers, slavers, and those who put torch to the canopy. Offer her a token of the forest, leave no scar upon it, and she will guide you out by morning. Wrong the wood, and she becomes the last thing the brush ever shows you.
Run Forest Princess in Sixty Seconds
- Mark first. Each turn name her quarry before attacking, that quarry eats an extra 2d6 and she tracks it on advantage, so pick the target you most want dead.
- Open from cover. Lead with a marked shortbow shot from the treeline, then Fleet Step (Dash/Disengage) so the party has to come to her on her terrain.
- Kill-priority is the chaser. Thornward lets her free-swing anyone who ends a move next to her, so melee should approach single-file or eat the strike.
- When bloodied, she stops trading blows, Disengages every turn, and kites through brush where opportunity attacks have disadvantage until she resets.
- Three ways to run her: lone hit-and-run huntress in a forest gauntlet; skirmish partner to Brackenfang the wolf; or the assassin blade flanking a bigger wildwood boss.
Forest Princess
Medium humanoid (human), neutral good
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINEWildwood Stride. The princess ignores difficult terrain caused by plants, brush, and natural growth. Opportunity attacks against her are made with disadvantage while she is in a forest, jungle, or other heavily overgrown surroundings.
Quarry's Mark. Signature. At the start of her turn the princess marks one creature she can see as her quarry until the end of her next turn. The first time each turn she hits the quarry, she deals an extra 7 (2d6) damage, and she has advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks to track it. Only one creature can be her quarry at a time.
Actions
Multiattack. The princess makes two attacks with her serrated shortblade, or two with her shortbow.
Serrated Shortblade. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage.
Shortbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, range 80/320 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 2) piercing damage.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Fleet Step (Bonus Action). The princess takes the Dash or Disengage action.
Thornward (Reaction). When a creature she can see ends its move within 5 ft. of her, she makes one Serrated Shortblade attack against it.
A barefoot huntress in a fur-trimmed hood lunges mid-stride, her jagged blade catching the light as she breaks from the treeline. Around her boots the forest floor erupts in roots and stone, the wild itself moving with her.
Forest Princess, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEPack Sense (signature). Forest Princess has advantage on attack rolls against a creature if at least one of the wolf's allies is within 5 ft. of it and not incapacitated.
Actions
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Reactions
Cover the Princess. When the princess is hit by an attack while Forest Princess is within 5 ft. of her, the wolf can move to intercept, becoming the target instead and taking the damage in her place.
A grey timber wolf that pads at her heel, ears forward, teeth bared at any who crowd its mistress.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open from cover with a marked shot, then Fleet Step away so the party must chase her into the trees. Kill-priority her quarry's healer or caster; keep 30+ ft. and the brush between you. Pair her with a wolf or two as the wildwood's first warning, not a lone fight.
Mark the squishiest target, hit twice with the shortblade plus Quarry's Mark, then bonus-action Disengage so opportunity attacks fizzle in the woods. Thornward punishes anyone closing on her, so make melee come to her one at a time. Run her as a flanking skirmisher beside Brackenfang or a flagship wildwood boss, never standing toe-to-toe.
She is the ambush blade in a larger lair fight: mark a backline PC, drop in via Wildwood Stride, and let Thornward carve anyone who chases. Keep her mobile with Fleet Step and let minions or a bigger forest threat pin the front line. Pair her with a treant, a fey lord, or a wolf pack so she is the dagger, not the wall.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Forest Princess?
Her native build is CR 6 (2,300 XP), a Tier 2 skirmisher for parties of levels 5-10. The stat record also gives Tier 1 (levels 1-4) and Tier 3 (levels 11-15) versions with the same traits and shifted numbers, so you can drop her into almost any table.
Can Forest Princess be a companion or ally?
Yes. As a neutral good warden of the wood she makes a natural guide or ally once the party proves they mean the forest no harm. Run her at the tier matching your group and have her mark threats and scout ahead rather than tank, and she pairs cleanly with her wolf Brackenfang.
Is she a solo boss?
No. She is a fast, slippery skirmisher, not an action-economy centerpiece. A full party will out-act her in a stand-up fight, so use her in a forest gauntlet of hit-and-run encounters, beside her wolf, or as the flanking blade supporting a larger wildwood threat.
