Nyshara
Nyshara — The Encounter
Spotted dreamwalker who runs where no mind dares linger · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Nyshara
They say Nyshara was born in the half-hour before dawn, when the dream-tide has not yet drawn back from the waking shore. She learned to run there first, across landscapes no living foot should touch, and she carries that gait into the daylight world: a blur of spots and breath that crosses a clearing before the eye agrees she has moved. Hunters of the high savanna leave a bowl of milk at their thresholds for her, for it is said she dreams in places no mind dares linger, and what she sees there she sometimes trades for kindness. Cross her and she does not roar a warning. She is simply gone from where your spear struck, and present at your unguarded back, claws already closing. The cradle-priests whisper that she is not cruel, only swift, and that the swift cannot be argued with.
Run Nyshara in Sixty Seconds
- She is a skirmisher, not a wall. Do not hold her in melee with the tanks. Her whole job is to cross the battlefield and reach the soft targets.
- Open with Pounce. Move 20+ ft. straight at a caster or healer, claw, force the DC Str save for prone, then bonus-action bite the prone target.
- Kill-priority is the back line. Healers, casters, the archer. Her speed and climb let her ignore the front rank entirely.
- When bloodied, vanish. In dim light use Dreamtread to Hide as a bonus action and Reflexive Bound to peel away, then re-strike fresh next round.
- Three ways to run her: a clean ambush opener; a recurring back-line harasser that never stays put; or a paired assassin riding shotgun for a heavier boss.
Nyshara
Medium humanoid (catfolk), chaotic neutral
CR 2 · 450 XP · GUIDELINEPounce. If Nyshara moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a claw attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, Nyshara can make one bite attack against it as a bonus action.
Dreamtread. Signature. Nyshara moves between waking and dream as easily as shadow. While she is in dim light or darkness, opportunity attacks against her are made with disadvantage, and she can take the Hide action as a bonus action.
Actions
Multiattack. Nyshara makes two claw attacks.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6 + 4) slashing damage.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d4 + 4) piercing damage.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Reflexive Bound. When a creature ends its turn within 5 feet of Nyshara, she can use her reaction to move up to half her speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
A lithe cheetah-folk huntress crouched mid-spring, spotted gold fur taut over coiled muscle, one clawed hand reaching as if testing the seam between the sleeping world and this one.
Nyshara, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEPack Sense (signature). Nyshara has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks and cannot be surprised while it can hear.
Actions
Rake. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (2d4 + 2) slashing damage.
Reactions
Cover the Flank. When an ally within 5 feet is hit by an attack, Nyshara can use its reaction to impose disadvantage on the attacker's next attack against that ally before the start of Nyshara's next turn.
A half-grown spotted cat that pads at Nyshara's heel, ears swiveling to threats she has not yet deigned to notice.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open by Pouncing the squishiest back-line target to knock it prone, then bonus-action bite. Kill-priority is healers and casters: she sprints past the front line with her 40 ft. speed and climb. When bloodied, use Reflexive Bound and Dreamtread (Hide in dim light) to vanish, then re-open the next round. Pair her with a heavier brute that holds the front while she circles.
Same hit-and-run, but she now survives a full round of focus fire. Open on the caster, Pounce to prone, then dismantle them over two turns. If the party clusters, dart between them using Reflexive Bound to deny opportunity attacks. Run her as a skirmisher beside a Tier 2 anchor or a small pack so the party can never pin her down.
A lethal assassin-skirmisher in a lair of broken sightlines and dim light. Open by Dreamtread-Hiding, Pounce a key target, prone-lock and savage it. Kill-priority remains anyone who can lock her down (counterspell, hold person). She is an add-on, not the centerpiece: pair her with a bigger flagship threat or minions so the dreamwalker can knife the back line while the party is busy.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Nyshara?
Her native build is CR 2 (450 XP), a Tier 1 catfolk skirmisher. The stat record also gives scaled Tier 2 (~CR 6) and Tier 3 (~CR 11) versions so she can harass a higher-level party without a rewrite.
Can Nyshara be a companion or ally?
Yes. As a chaotic-neutral dreamwalker bound by resonance rather than loyalty, she makes a natural scout, guide, or temporary ally. Run her as a friendly skirmisher who darts ahead, flanks for the party, and trades dream-glimpsed secrets for kindness.
Is Nyshara a solo boss?
No. She is an add-on, not a centerpiece. She lacks legendary actions, so a four-PC party out-acts her if she fights alone. Deploy her alongside a heavier flagship threat, a pack, or a lair of broken sightlines where her speed and stealth shine.
