The complete encyclopedia of the 72 spirits bound in the grimoire of King Solomon — their ranks, their dominions, and the Clay Cyanide miniatures sculpted to honour their most fearsome forms.
The Ars Goetia is the first and most famous section of the Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis — the Lesser Key of Solomon — a seventeenth-century grimoire cataloguing 72 spirits said to have been bound by the biblical King Solomon using a brass vessel and his legendary seal.
Each spirit is assigned a rank within the infernal hierarchy — Kings, Dukes, Princes, Marquises, Earls, Presidents, Knights — and a specific number of legions under their command. Their powers span every domain of human knowledge and desire: language, science, war, healing, divination, and the transmutation of matter.
The text draws from older sources including the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum (1577) by Johan Weyer and ultimately traces back to medieval Jewish and Arabic magical traditions. It remains the most studied catalogue of named spirits in Western occult history.
"The first and principal spirit is a King ruling in the East, called Bael. He speaketh in divers manners, and maketh men invisible. He ruleth over 66 Legions of Infernal Spirits."
— Ars Goetia, The Lesser Key of Solomon (17th Century)Clay Cyanide was founded in 2020 on one obsession: the 72 spirits of the Ars Goetia deserve sculptural forms worthy of the scripture that describes them. Not generic fantasy monsters — true demonic entities rendered with the gravity their mythology demands.
Every Clay Cyanide Ars Goetia miniature begins in the original grimoire texts — the Lemegeton, the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, and the Book of Abramelin. The sculptor researches each spirit's documented attributes, its traditional seal, its rank in the hierarchy, and the visual language of medieval and Renaissance occultism. The result is a miniature that functions as both a collector's piece and a faithful mythological document.
This encyclopedia exists to provide full dossiers on all 72 spirits — their history, their powers, their significance in occult tradition — alongside the Clay Cyanide sculptures that bring them into physical form.
