Kaeltharix
Kaeltharix — The Encounter
Wyrm-Blooded Demolisher, Fists Bound in Volcanic Steel · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Kaeltharix
They name him Kaeltharix, the Demolisher, sworn to a martial creed whose first article holds that violence is not chaos but clarity. Born of dragon blood and raised in stone halls, he tempered patience to the weight of an avalanche and force to its inevitability. His fists are bound in Skarblades, gauntlets forged of volcanic steel that drink the heat of the deep earth and return it as searing judgment. Where his rampaging kin roar and burn, Kaeltharix simply advances, plants his feet, and removes whatever stands before him. Walls fall. Shields buckle. The boastful are seized and crushed in silence. He takes no joy in ruin, only in the cleanliness of a thing ended completely. Monastery sparring-champions and warlord bodyguards alike seek his tutelage, though few survive the lesson. To face him is to learn the creed's last article: that everything yields, and the only question worth asking is how slowly.
Run Kaeltharix in Sixty Seconds
- Hold until the party clusters or a caster is exposed, then advance in a straight line; he never retreats and never gets shoved.
- Open with Multiattack on the front-line tank to knock it prone, setting up everyone else's advantage.
- Kill-priority: the squishiest reachable target, seized and crushed with Crushing Seize and held in searing fire.
- When bloodied he stops maneuvering and simply hammers the nearest creature every round, leaning on Stone Counter to bleed melee attackers dry.
- Three ways to run him: immovable line-anchor beside a caster boss; grapple-bot that pins one PC out of the fight; or a brutal arena duelist who counters every swing.
Kaeltharix
Medium dragon, lawful neutral
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINESkarblade Gauntlets. Kaeltharix's volcanic-steel fists are heated metal. His unarmed strikes are magical and deal an extra 4 (1d8) fire damage (included below), and a creature struck must be a creature he can see.
Avalanche Stance. Kaeltharix has advantage on Strength saving throws and on checks to resist being grappled, knocked prone, or shoved. He cannot be moved against his will while he is conscious and standing on solid ground.
Actions
Multiattack. Kaeltharix makes two Skarblade Fist attacks. If both hit the same target, that target must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Skarblade Fist. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6+4) bludgeoning damage plus 4 (1d8) fire damage.
Crushing Seize (Recharge 5–6). Kaeltharix grapples one creature he can reach (escape DC 15) and slams it. The target takes 18 (4d6+4) bludgeoning damage and is restrained until the grapple ends. While restrained this way it takes 4 (1d8) fire damage at the start of each of its turns from the searing gauntlets.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Stone Counter. Reaction. When a creature Kaeltharix can see hits him with a melee attack, he makes one Skarblade Fist attack against that creature.
A towering wyrm-blooded brawler in orange scale, his bandaged forearms ending in heavy volcanic-steel gauntlets called Skarblades, planted immovable atop a ring of shattered stones.
Kaeltharix, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEEmber-Forged (signature). The bound gauntlet-spirit is immune to fire and cannot be disarmed from its wielder. Its strikes count as magical.
Actions
Searing Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d4+4) bludgeoning damage plus 3 (1d6) fire damage.
Reactions
Guarding Block. Reaction. When an ally within 5 ft. is hit by a melee attack, the bound gauntlet adds 2 to that ally's AC against the triggering attack, possibly causing it to miss.
When the creed binds a Kaeltharix's spirit to a worthy aspirant, the volcanic-steel fist fights on its own, a stoic guardian of searing metal.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open by wading into the toughest-looking front-liner and using Crushing Seize to pin a squishy caster against the wall. Stone Counter punishes anyone who melees him, so kill-priority is to range him down. Pair him with weaker minions who flank while he holds the center.
Open by closing on the heaviest armor and Multiattacking to knock it prone, then Crushing Seize the healer next round. Avalanche Stance means shove/grapple tricks fail, so the party must out-damage him head-on while Stone Counter taxes every melee swing. Use him as the unbreakable anchor beside a ranged or caster boss.
Open by seizing and crushing the most mobile threat to lock the party in place. He is a bruiser, not a centerpiece, so run him with minions or a lair and pair him with a bigger threat that exploits the prone and restrained targets he creates. Kill-priority for the party is freeing whoever he has grappled.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Kaeltharix?
His home build is CR 6 (Tier 2, 2,300 XP): AC 16, 127 HP, +7 to hit, save DC 15. Stat lines for Tier 1 (levels 1-4) and Tier 3 (levels 11-15) are provided so you can drop him into any party without changing how he plays.
Can Kaeltharix be a companion or ally?
Yes. Use the Skarblade, Bound companion block (AC 14, 76 HP) as a player's bound gauntlet-spirit or a creed escort. It blocks for adjacent allies and hits with searing fire, making it a sturdy melee guardian rather than a damage dealer.
Is Kaeltharix a solo boss?
No. He has no legendary actions and a four-character party will out-act him, so he shines as an add-on bruiser. Pair him with a caster or a flying threat and let him anchor the line, grapple key targets, and punish melee with Stone Counter.
