Farasi Bahari
Farasi Bahari — The Encounter
The sea-stallion that rides the breaking surf · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Farasi Bahari
Sailors along the warm coasts whisper of the farasi bahari, the sea-horse that the tide itself foals. It is no fish nor any honest beast of the field, but a thing of brine and breaking water, shaped like a stallion above and tapering into a great scaled tail below. By day it grazes the shallows on weed and kelp; by night it climbs onto the strand to gallop the foam, and woe to the rider who tries to break it, for it bolts straight for the deep and drowns the bold. Some say a mare left to graze near the surf will throw swift, half-wild foals if the sea-stallion comes ashore in the dark. Fishermen leave a measure of grain at the waterline to buy fair weather, and the wise never curse it by name within hearing of the waves, lest the next swell answer back with hooves.
Run Farasi Bahari in Sixty Seconds
- Keep it wet. The farasi bahari only plays at full strength near water, so set the fight on a shore, ford, or flooded ruin. On dry land it loses Undertow and most of its resistances.
- Open with control, not damage. Tail Slam to shove a target toward water, then hooves to knock prone. Its whole game is dictating position, not raw burst.
- Kill-priority: anyone at the waterline. It wants to isolate and drown squishy ranged or healers; Undertow punishes melee that wades in to help.
- When bloodied, it bolts for deep water and fights from there, using reach Tail Slam and pulling pursuers under one at a time.
- Three ways to run it: a wild predator stalking a coast (lone harasser), a half-tamed mount under a coastal champion (add-on), or part of a tidal lair packed with lesser water beasts (controller anchor).
Farasi Bahari
Large elemental (water), neutral
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINEAmphibious. The sea-stallion can breathe air and water.
Surf-Bound. Signature. The sea-stallion carries the sea with it. While within 20 feet of a body of water, difficult terrain caused by water or mud does not cost it extra movement, and it has advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks to grapple or shove. When it ends its turn in such terrain, the ground within 10 feet of it churns into pounding surf, becoming difficult terrain for other creatures until the start of its next turn.
Actions
Multiattack. The sea-stallion makes two attacks: one with its hooves and one with its tail.
Hooves. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (3d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a Large or smaller creature, it must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Tail Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage, and the target is pushed up to 10 feet toward the nearest body of water.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Undertow (Reaction). When a creature the sea-stallion can see moves within 5 feet of it while both are within 10 feet of water, the sea-stallion may force that creature to make a DC 15 Strength saving throw. On a failure, the creature is pulled prone into the water beside it.
Sculpted mid-leap from a cresting wave, this finned stallion rears with a spined dorsal mane and a scaled fish-tail that dissolves into spray, a living surge of the sea given hoof and gallop.
Farasi Bahari, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINETide's Mount (signature). A creature riding the surf-foal gains a swim speed of 40 feet and can breathe underwater while mounted.
Actions
Hooves. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
Reactions
Spray Veil. When a creature the surf-foal can see attacks it while it is in water, it kicks up a curtain of spray; the attacker has disadvantage on that attack roll.
A younger, leaner sea-stallion that has taken to a rider, half-tamed and forever pulling toward open water.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open by charging from the surf to knock a front-liner prone, then trample. Keep it near water so Undertow can drag a melee attacker down. Pair it with a coastal raider or a bigger water-dweller as the real threat.
Open with Tail Slam to shove a caster toward the water, then hooves to drop them prone. Kill-priority is squishy ranged or healers it can isolate at the waterline; use Undertow on anyone who steps in to rescue. Best run with minions or a lair near a shore, not alone.
Open by churning the field to surf, then split the party between dry land and water. Drag the heaviest melee threat into the deep with Undertow and pummel it where its allies can't follow. Pair it with a bigger aquatic threat or a flooded lair; it shines as a controller add-on, not a lone boss.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Farasi Bahari?
Its home build is CR 6 (2,300 XP) for a Tier 2 party of levels 5-10. The block also scales down to roughly CR 2 for Tier 1 and up to roughly CR 11 for Tier 3 by swapping the AC, HP, to-hit, and save DC to the listed bands; the traits and actions stay the same.
Can Farasi Bahari be a companion or ally?
Yes. The Surf-Foal, Bound companion block represents a younger sea-stallion that tolerates a rider, granting a swim speed and underwater breathing while mounted, with a spray-veil reaction that protects it in water. It is a strong aquatic mount rather than a frontline brawler.
Is the farasi bahari a horse, a fish, or an elemental?
Mechanically it is treated as a Large water elemental: a creature of living brine shaped like a finned stallion, not a true beast you can breed or stable. It is amphibious and resists cold, but it weakens away from water, so a clever party fights it on dry ground.
