Goblin 6
Goblin 6 — The Encounter
Crouching crossbow-shot of the warren, patient as a snare · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Goblin 6
Among the warren-folk, the crouching shot is no front-line brawler but the warren's patient eye. It learns each trail and chokepoint of the camp by heart, then plants itself behind a stump or rubble pile and simply waits. When a trespasser steps into the open, the heavy crossbow speaks once, hard, before the shooter melts back along a hidden run to nock another bolt. Such goblins are prized in raiding bands for thinning the strong before the spear-mob closes, and for picking off torchbearers and casters who think distance makes them safe. They fight with cruel cunning rather than courage: cornered, they will fling a wild slash and flee, trusting the maze of their own tunnels to swallow them. Folk who clear a goblin camp learn to fear the silent ones at the edges far more than the shrieking horde at its heart, for it is the crouching shot that fells the captain first.
Run Goblin 6 in Sixty Seconds
- Stay crouched The Sniper's Crouch only works if the goblin does not move, so reward it for holding still: 19-20 crits and it ignores the party's cover. Plant it on a perch and make the PCs come dig it out.
- Kill the casters Open by targeting the lowest-AC backliner, especially anyone concentrating on a spell. One 8-point bolt plus a concentration save ruins a turn.
- Use Nimble Escape Every turn it can Disengage or Hide as a bonus action. Loose, fade behind cover, repeat. Melee characters will waste turns chasing it.
- When bloodied It stops trading and flees to fresh cover, trusting the warren maze. Have it lead pursuers into traps or the rest of the warband.
- Three ways to run it Lone harasser sniping from a ledge; a paired sniper line behind a brute; or a lair guardian that ignores cover while a real boss holds the front.
Goblin 6
Small humanoid (goblinoid), neutral evil
CR 2 · 450 XP · GUIDELINENimble Escape. The goblin can take the Disengage or Hide action as a bonus action on each of its turns.
Sniper's Crouch. While the goblin has not moved on its turn, its ranged weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20, and it ignores half cover and three-quarters cover against the target. A crouching shooter in a warren is half-snare, half-marksman: it waits, breathes, and looses.
Actions
Multiattack. The goblin makes two Heavy Crossbow attacks, or two Scimitar attacks.
Heavy Crossbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 100/400 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d10+3) piercing damage.
Scimitar. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6+3) slashing damage.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Fade Back (Bonus Action). Using Nimble Escape, the goblin Disengages and slips behind cover after loosing a bolt, making it punishing to pin down in melee.
A barefoot goblin marksman crouches low, a heavy crossbow braced to its cheek and a quiver of fletched bolts bristling over one shoulder. Every muscle is coiled to loose, hold, and vanish into the warren behind it.

Bound · GUIDELINEPack Lookout (signature). While Goblin 6 is within 30 feet of its goblin handler, the handler cannot be surprised and gains advantage on Perception checks relying on hearing.
Actions
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8+2) piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 12 Strength save or be knocked prone.
Reactions
Drag Down. When a creature within 5 feet stands up from prone, Goblin 6 snaps at it, dealing 4 (1d6+1) piercing damage.
A half-wild warren-hound trained to herd quarry into the shooter's line of fire and pin anyone who closes the distance.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open from cover at range with a held crouching shot, targeting the squishiest caster or healer. If a melee fighter closes, Fade Back with Nimble Escape and keep distance. Pair it with a goblin spear-mob or a bigger threat so this one stays in the back picking off priority targets.
Run several of these as a sniper line behind a heavier brute or hobgoblin captain. Have them hold their crouch each round for the extended crit range, focusing whoever just dropped a concentration spell. When bloodied, they retreat to fresh cover rather than trade blows.
At this tier use it only as an elite marksman add-on in a lair or warband, never alone. Stack it with a true boss and minions so the party's action economy is split. It holds a fortified perch, ignores cover against its mark, and burns the casters down while the boss presses the front.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Goblin 6?
Its home statline is CR 2 (450 XP) for a Tier 1 party (levels 1-4): AC 14, 44 HP, +5 to hit, save DC 12. The record also gives scaled Tier 2 and Tier 3 columns so you can drop it into a higher-level fight as an elite marksman add-on.
Can Goblin 6 be a companion or ally?
Yes. As an NPC ally it makes a deadly scout-sniper: keep it in cover, let it crouch for the improved crit range, and use Nimble Escape to reposition. It also comes with Pincher, a bound warren-hound that watches its back and trips anyone who closes in.
Is this a boss or an add-on?
An add-on. It is a skirmisher with no legendary actions, built to support a larger threat by thinning the party's back line. Pair it with a goblin warband, a hobgoblin captain, or any flagship boss rather than fielding it solo.
