The Grimoire Speaks
Sabnock is the Forty-third Spirit of the Ars Goetia, holding the rank of Marquis in the infernal hierarchy. According to the Lesser Key of Solomon, Sabnock commands 50 legions of inferior spirits and belongs to the order of Marquises. As a Marquis, Sabnock serves within the structured hierarchy beneath the Great Kings of the Goetia.
Appearance
He appeareth in the form of an Armed Soldier with a Lion's Head, riding on a pale-coloured horse.
Powers & Dominion
He buildeth high Towers, Castles, and Cities, and furnisheth them with Armour. He can afflict Men for many days with Wounds and with Sores rotten and full of Worms. He giveth Good Familiars at the request of the Exorcist.
Summoning & Constraints
He governeth 50 Legions of Spirits.
Historical Note
The seal and description of Sabnock are drawn from the Ars Goetia, the first book of the Lemegeton (Lesser Key of Solomon), a 17th-century grimoire compiled from older Medieval and Renaissance sources. The 72 demons were said to have been conjured and bound by King Solomon using a brass vessel sealed with divine names. Each demon's seal, reproduced above, was used by the conjurer as a means of identification and control during the summoning ritual.
