Asmodeus — The Encounter

Goetic king of wrath, enthroned on a crown of skulls · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.

Who Is Asmodeus

In the Lesser Key of Solomon, Asmodeus is named a mighty king among the seventy-two spirits, the demon of wrath and ruin first set down in the Book of Tobit, who slew seven bridegrooms before the angel Raphael bound him to the deep. The grimoires give him legions and the patience of stone: he answers only the conjuror bold enough to stand bare-headed before him, and he gives true answers, for cruelty needs no lie. Clay Cyanide's reading seats that older terror on a chair of skulls, gold-plated and crowned, a king who does not chase because the world has always come to his throne. He is not a tempter here but a sovereign of grievance: the one the betrayed call when justice has failed them, and the one they learn, too late, to fear more than the wrong that summoned him.

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If Asmodeus fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.

Infernal Majesty. Allied fiends within 30 ft. of Asmodeus can't be frightened and have advantage on saves against being charmed.

Magic Resistance. Asmodeus has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Actions

Multiattack. Asmodeus makes two Crescent Greataxe attacks.

Crescent Greataxe. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (2d12+6) slashing plus 13 (3d8) fire damage.

Command the Legions (Recharge 5-6). Each creature of his choice within 30 ft. must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom save or be frightened until the end of its next turn; a throne-serpent makes one bite (+9, 2d6+3 piercing) against a frightened target.

Legendary Actions (3/Round)

Strike (1). One Crescent Greataxe attack.

Decree (2). Asmodeus casts command (DC 17) at one creature he can see within 60 ft.

He does not rise. The throne of fused skulls is where the wronged are summoned to kneel, and the crescent axe has never needed a second swing.

How It Fights — by Tier

Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.

Tier 1Levels 1-4 · GUIDELINE
AC15HP60 (8d10+16) To-hit+5Save DC13

Run it as a bound effigy a cult has chained to an altar - an echo wearing the crown, not the king. Pair with 4-6 cultists. It strikes whoever frees the captives first; if the party clusters, Command the Legions frightens the back line.

Tier 2Levels 5-10 · GUIDELINE
AC17HP130 (15d10+45) To-hit+7Save DC15

The crowned aspect with two hell hounds. Hold the throne dais as a chokepoint; let the hounds harry casters while the king punishes anyone on the steps. Kill-priority stays on the healer.

Tier 3Levels 11-15 · NATIVE
AC19HP230 (20d10+120) To-hit+9Save DC17

The king solo, serpents live. Lead with Command the Legions to scatter the line, then two axe swings and a Legendary Strike on the same target to drop them before a heal. Spend Legendary Resistance the instant a save-or-suck lands.
