Aphrodite — The Encounter

Rose-Crowned Goddess whose smile unmakes the will · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.

Who Is Aphrodite

Hear, and be careful where you let your eyes rest. The rose-crowned one is not the soft idol the sculptors flatter; she is the oldest hunger wearing the kindest face. Temples were raised to her not from love but from fear of love misplaced, for she can turn an army inward upon itself with a single inclination of her head. Where she walks, blades lower, oaths dissolve, and the most disciplined captain forgets the name of his cause. The thorns beneath her petals draw blood gladly given. The wise do not pray for her favor; they pray to remain beneath her notice, for to be noticed is to be claimed, and the claimed do not return whole. Should you face her, stop your ears against her whispers, fix your purpose before you enter her reach, and strike before the longing settles in your chest. Many have died smiling at her feet, and not one of them resisted.

Aura of Adoration. Signature. Any hostile creature that starts its turn within 20 feet of Aphrodite must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or have disadvantage on attack rolls against any target other than her until the start of its next turn. A creature that fails by 5 or more is instead charmed by her until the start of its next turn.

Beauty Incarnate. Aphrodite is immune to being charmed, and any creature that targets her with a charm or fear effect must succeed on a DC 15 Charisma saving throw or have the effect rebound onto itself.

Actions

Multiattack. Aphrodite makes two Rose-Thorn Lash attacks, or makes one attack and uses Beguiling Whisper if it is available.

Rose-Thorn Lash. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (3d8+4) piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by Aphrodite until the end of its next turn.

Beguiling Whisper (Recharge 5-6). Aphrodite breathes a word of love at one creature she can see within 60 feet. The target must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure it takes 22 (4d8+4) psychic damage and is charmed until the end of its next turn; on a success it takes half damage and is not charmed. While charmed this way, the target must use its action to move toward Aphrodite by the safest route.

Bonus Actions & Reactions

Veil of Petals (Reaction). When a creature Aphrodite can see hits her with an attack, she scatters a swirl of rose petals. The attacker must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or its attack misses, and Aphrodite may then fly up to 20 feet without provoking opportunity attacks.

She rises weightless from a fountain of blooming roses, robes streaming like wings on a wind no one else can feel, one hand extended as if to invite an embrace no mortal could refuse.

Twin Arrows (signature). Aphrodite carries two enchanted arrows: a golden one that kindles devotion and a leaden one that breeds loathing. He may loose one as part of an attack each turn.

Actions

Golden Bow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, range 80/320 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8+5) piercing damage, and the target makes a DC 15 Wisdom save or is charmed until the end of its next turn (golden arrow) or has disadvantage on its next attack (leaden arrow).

Reactions

Heartstring (Reaction). When an ally within 30 feet is targeted by an attack, Aphrodite looses a leaden arrow; the attacker makes a DC 14 Wisdom save or takes disadvantage on the attack roll.

A lithe winged youth who hovers at her shoulder, quiver glittering with arrows that decide who loves and who is forsaken.

How It Fights — by Tier

Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.

Tier 1Levels 1-4 · GUIDELINE
AC14HP9d8+18 (58) To-hit+4Save DC13

Open with Aura of Adoration active and lash the party's striker so disadvantage scatters their damage. If players cluster around her, let the charm chain ruin their formation. She is the centerpiece charmer here, not a damage threat, so pair her with thugs who exploit the charmed.

Tier 2Levels 5-10 · NATIVE
AC16HP19d8+38 (123) To-hit+7Save DC15

Open with Beguiling Whisper on the party's heaviest hitter to pull them out of line, then lash whoever closes. Kill-priority is anyone with magic that suppresses charm. Pair her with melee bruisers (satyrs, cultists, a minotaur) who carve up charmed PCs while the aura keeps the rest distracted.

Tier 3Levels 11-15 · GUIDELINE
AC18HP27d8+108 (229) To-hit+9Save DC17

Lead with the aura up and Whisper the controller or healer to drag them into the kill-box. Use Veil of Petals to slip melee and reposition every round. Kill-priority is anyone immune to charm; everyone else she turns into a weapon. Best run beside a true boss whose damage she enables.

Questions, Asked at the Table

What CR is Aphrodite?

Native CR 6 (2,300 XP), a Tier 2 challenge for levels 5-10. Scaled stat blocks are provided for Tier 1 (levels 1-4) and Tier 3 (levels 11-15) so she fits any table.

Can Aphrodite be a companion or ally?

Yes. As a chaotic-neutral celestial her loyalties shift with desire, so she makes a capricious patron rather than a steadfast one. Use her Aura of Adoration and Beguiling Whisper to disarm enemies on the party's behalf, with the bound Eros loosing his golden and leaden arrows in support.

Is Aphrodite a solo boss?

No. She has no legendary actions and little raw damage, so action economy buries her alone. She shines as the charm-and-control centerpiece beside melee enforcers who punish the enemies her aura turns aside.

The Legend

Aphrodite emerges from the oldest stories humanity ever told — legends that survived because they contained truths too dangerous to speak plainly. Clay Cyanide's interpretation strips away centuries of artistic softening to reveal the original terror and majesty that made ancient peoples build temples and offer sacrifices. The sculpt captures Aphrodite at the peak of their power: every muscle tensed, every detail rendered with the kind of obsessive precision that rewards hours of close-range painting. With 13,911 views from the community, this is one of the most sought-after mythological miniatures in the catalog.
