Atlas
Atlas — The Encounter
The Sky-Bearing Titan, whose shoulders hold the heavens · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Atlas
Of the Titans cast down after the war against the gods, Atlas alone was sentenced not to chains but to burden: to stand at the world's western edge and bear the vault of heaven upon his shoulders for all time. Generations of mariners swear the mountains there are his stooped silhouette, and that storms are the trembling of his arms. Yet the grimoires of Atlantis tell otherwise — that he set the sky down upon a pillar of his own making and walked free into the drowned kingdom, lending his unbreakable shoulders to its phalanx. He does not strike to kill but to anchor: where Atlas plants his feet, a line will not break, a gate will not fall, an ally will not be overrun. To stand behind him is to stand behind the firmament itself. Those who would topple him learn that the sky-bearer was never holding the heavens up — he was holding them back from crushing the world below.
Run Atlas in Sixty Seconds
- Wall first Atlas is a load-bearing pillar, not a chaser. Plant him in the chokepoint and force the party to deal with him before anything behind him.
- Open with Earthshaker Legendary stamp knocks the cluster prone (DC 17 Str), then Multiattack the prone for advantage and free crits on the kill-target.
- Grapple and Hurl Kill-priority is the enemy healer or controller — grapple it, then Hurl it 30 ft. into a wall so it and anyone it lands on both eat damage and go prone.
- When bloodied, root him He stops moving to lock in Atlas Stance: advantage vs. forced movement and prone, and foes can't slip closer behind him. He becomes truly immovable.
- Three ways to run him Solo wall-boss (tier 3, lean on legendaries + Bulwark); anvil beside a striker boss (grapple-and-hold while the partner deletes); or a guardian objective the party must topple to advance.
Atlas
Huge giant (titan), neutral
CR 11 · 7,200 XP · GUIDELINEAtlas Stance. Signature. Atlas plants himself like a load-bearing pillar. While he has not moved on his turn, he has advantage on Strength checks and saves to avoid being moved or knocked prone, and any creature that ends its turn within 10 ft. of him must succeed on a DC 16 Strength save or be unable to willingly move closer to allies it is shielding behind him — his bulk eclipses the battlefield like a held-up sky.
Titanic Build. Atlas counts as one size larger for carrying capacity, grappling, shoving, and squeezing. He suffers no penalty for being grappled by smaller creatures and can drag two grappled targets with him when he moves.
Actions
Multiattack. Atlas makes two Crushing Fist attacks. He can replace one with a Hurl (if a creature is grappled) or with Heave Earth.
Crushing Fist. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 24 (4d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage, and a Large or smaller target must succeed on a DC 17 Strength save or be knocked prone.
Heave Earth. Ranged Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, range 30/90 ft., one target. Hit: 22 (3d10 + 6) bludgeoning damage, and the impact creates difficult terrain in a 10-ft. square where it lands.
Hurl. Atlas throws a creature he is grappling up to 30 ft. The thrown creature takes 18 (4d6 + 6) bludgeoning damage and lands prone; any creature in its landing space takes 11 (2d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage and is knocked prone (DC 17 Dex save half, no prone).
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Bulwark (Reaction). When a creature Atlas can see within 5 ft. of him is hit by an attack, Atlas can interpose his frame, making himself the target instead. He has resistance to the triggering damage.
Legendary Actions (3/Round)
Step. Atlas moves up to half his speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
Crushing Fist (Costs 2 Actions). Atlas makes one Crushing Fist attack.
Earthshaker. Atlas stamps the ground. Each creature within 15 ft. must succeed on a DC 17 Strength save or be knocked prone.
A Huge bare-armed titan sheathed in scrollwork gold plate, fists clenched and shoulders set, standing on a fractured outcrop as though the very weight of the sky still rests upon his back.
Atlas, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEShoulder the Sky (signature). While within 10 ft. of Atlas, allies have advantage on saves against being knocked prone or moved against their will.
Actions
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (3d6 + 6) bludgeoning damage.
Reactions
Brace. When an adjacent ally would be knocked prone, Atlas can grab them; they are not knocked prone instead.
A lesser titan-kin who learned to bear weight at Atlas's side, planting herself as an immovable second pillar.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open by planting in the doorway or chokepoint so the party cannot flow past — Atlas is a wall, not a sprinter. If foes cluster behind cover, Heave Earth to break it and make them come to him. At this tier run him as a miniboss the party must get around, not just through.
Wade to the front line, grapple the squishiest melee threat, then Hurl them into the backline so two targets eat the landing. Use Bulwark to soak the hardest hit aimed at your caster ally. Pair him as the anvil while a striker boss plays hammer.
Solo-capable boss: open with Earthshaker (legendary) to floor the cluster, then Multiattack the prone with advantage. Spend legendary Steps to reposition between marks; kill-priority is the enemy healer, whom he grapples and Hurls away from its line. When bloodied he stops moving entirely to claim Atlas Stance — nothing forces him off his mark.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Atlas?
Atlas is built at CR 11 (7,200 XP), a tier-3 boss. He is solo_capable: legendary actions and the Bulwark reaction let him anchor a fight against an 11th–15th-level party on his own. The tier table also gives CR-2-ish and CR-6-ish versions for lower-level tables.
Can Atlas be a companion or ally?
Yes. As a bound ally he is a brilliant tank — plant him in front, let him grapple and shoulder the sky for the party. The included companion, Pleione, Bound, is a lighter second pillar for tables that want the protective theme without a full CR-11 NPC swinging the fight.
Does Atlas need a weapon?
No. He is a bare-fisted brawler and grappler — all his attacks are unarmed Crushing Fists, thrown earth, or hurled enemies. His menace is mass and immovability, not a blade, which makes him easy to drop into any encounter without re-flavoring gear.
