Brahma — The Encounter

Four-Faced Creator who dreams the worlds into being · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.

Who Is Brahma

Of the makers of worlds, none is older than the Four-Faced One, who sat upon the lotus that rose from the deep and turned his gaze to each horizon, and from that fourfold seeing the directions themselves were born. The scrolls in his many hands hold the first words ever spoken, syllables that shaped water and wind and the names of all living things; the vessel he carries brims with the waters of origin, and the blossom in his upper palm is the world itself, forever opening. He neither hates nor favours, for he is the impartial architect, and his judgement falls like measured rain. Sages say a single age of mortals is but one breath of his, and that when he sleeps the worlds dissolve into dreaming, to be sung again at his waking. To stand before him is to be weighed by four faces at once, and found either useful to the design, or unnecessary to it.

Four Faces. Brahma cannot be surprised and has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks. Each round he perceives every direction at once; flanking grants no benefit against him, and he can target a creature he could see at the start of his turn even if it later breaks line of sight.

Innate Spellcasting. Brahma's spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 17). He can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components: at will - detect thoughts, dispel magic, guiding bolt; 3/day - banishment, commune; 1/day - true seeing.

Magic Resistance. Brahma has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Actions

Multiattack. Brahma makes three attacks: two with his Many-Handed Strike and one with his Word of Creation, or he casts a spell and makes one Many-Handed Strike.

Many-Handed Strike. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (3d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage plus 9 (2d8) radiant damage.

Word of Creation. Ranged Spell Attack: +9 to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 27 (5d8 + 4) radiant damage. On a hit, the target must succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of its next turn as the syllable of making sears its mind.

Bonus Actions & Reactions

Reweave (Reaction). When Brahma or a creature he can see within 60 ft. fails a saving throw, Brahma may reweave that thread of fate, granting a reroll. He can use this once before the start of his next turn.

Legendary Actions (3/Round)

Detect. Brahma makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

Many-Handed Strike. Brahma makes one Many-Handed Strike attack.

Verse of Unmaking (Costs 2 Actions). Brahma utters a syllable of dissolution. Each creature of his choice within 30 ft. must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or take 18 (4d8) radiant damage and be pushed 15 ft. away. On a success, a creature takes half damage and is not pushed.

Six arms fan from a four-faced sage as he dances upon an open lotus, scroll and water-vessel and unfolding blossom each cradled in a different palm, the very gesture by which a cosmos is begun.

Discerning Flight (signature). Brahma can hover and ignores difficult terrain. Once per turn, when it moves out of an enemy's reach, that attack of opportunity is made with disadvantage as the swan separates truth from threat.

Actions

Beak and Buffet. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (3d6 + 4) slashing damage, and the target's speed is reduced by 10 ft. until the end of its next turn.

Reactions

Sheltering Wing. When an ally within 5 ft. is hit by an attack, Brahma spreads a wing; the ally gains a +3 bonus to AC against that attack, potentially causing it to miss.

The white swan that bears the creator aloft, said to sip milk from water and so know the pure thought from the false one.

How It Fights — by Tier

Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.

Tier 1Levels 1-4 · GUIDELINE
AC14HP9d8+18 (58) To-hit+4Save DC13

Run him as an awakened idol stirring to defend a shrine. Open with Word of Creation on whoever looks most fragile, then Reweave to cancel a key save. Pair him with cultist guards; he is the centerpiece, not a lone fight at this tier.

Tier 2Levels 5-10 · GUIDELINE
AC16HP14d10+70 (147) To-hit+7Save DC15

Open with Verse of Unmaking the moment the party clusters, scattering them with the push. Kill-priority is anyone disrupting his concentration; use banishment on the heaviest melee threat. Save Reweave for a failed save on his own concentration spell.

Tier 3Levels 11-15 · NATIVE
AC18HP18d10+108 (207) To-hit+9Save DC17

His home tier: a true solo boss with legendary actions. Open with banishment on the party's striker, then alternate Word of Creation and legendary Many-Handed Strikes; trigger Verse of Unmaking when three or more cluster. Four Faces means flanking is wasted on him, so the party must out-damage, not out-position; Reweave protects his concentration. Bring Hamsa for an add.

Questions, Asked at the Table

What CR is Brahma?

Brahma is built as a CR 13 solo boss at his native Tier 3 (levels 11-15): AC 18, 207 HP, +9 to hit, save DC 17, with legendary actions. Because legendary actions let him play up a band, his sheet sits one step below raw CR-15 numbers. Scale him down to Tier 2 or Tier 1 using the tier table for lower-level parties.

Can Brahma be a companion or ally?

Not as a controlled companion - he is a world-maker, not a follower. But his mount Hamsa, the Bearing Swan, is provided as a fully statted ally (AC 14, 124 HP) who can hover, screen attacks with Sheltering Wing, and slow foes. Use Hamsa as the party's borrowed celestial or as an add in the boss fight.

Is Brahma safe to use in a published adventure?

Yes. Brahma is drawn entirely from public-domain Hindu mythology - the four-faced creator seated on the lotus, with his scroll, water-vessel, and swan - and is statted using only SRD 5.1 types (celestial), spells, and conditions. No proprietary cosmology or product identity is referenced.
