Corrupted Fenrir
Corrupted Fenrir — The Encounter
The Chained Wolf, rotted upon its broken fetter · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Corrupted Fenrir
They bound the great wolf with a fetter no blade could cut, and for an age the binding held. Then came the rot of Loki, the Bileblight that turns the sacred to the festering, and it found the wolf where it strained. The chain did not break by force. It broke because the flesh around it died and grew again wrong, swelling with quills of bone and veins of cold poison until the iron simply slipped from a throat that no longer cared. Now the Corrupted Fenrir hunts ahead of the rot like a herald, and where its teeth close the wound will not heal. Hunters who have tracked it speak of a smell before a sight: carrion and wet iron on the wind. Loose its chain in your hunting-grounds and the blight follows in its pawprints, faithful as a second shadow.
Run Corrupted Fenrir in Sixty Seconds
- Run it as a hunter, not a brawler. The wolf wants the squishy back line, not your shield wall. Use Pounce every round to reposition onto the lowest-AC target.
- Open by knocking someone prone. Lead with the bite; a failed Strength save means the target is prone and the rest of the pack gets advantage on it.
- Kill-priority is the healer. Rotting Bite stops a bitten creature from regaining hit points until your next turn, so bite the cleric and keep the whole party from being topped up.
- When bloodied, it frenzies. Broken Fetter adds 10 ft. of speed and advantage on its first bite each turn. Save your nastiest Rotting Bite stacks for the back half of the fight.
- Three ways to run it: a lone ambush predator that picks the party apart, a flanker beside a Bileblight flagship, or a pack of three reskinned at lower numbers swarming from the rot.
Corrupted Fenrir
Large monstrosity, chaotic evil
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINEKeen Hearing and Smell. The wolf has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
Rotting Bite. Signature. The corruption of Loki's blight festers in every wound the wolf opens. A creature that takes damage from the wolf's bite cannot regain hit points until the start of the wolf's next turn, and at the end of that creature's turn it must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or take 5 (2d4) poison damage as the rot spreads.
Broken Fetter. When the wolf is reduced to half its hit points or fewer, the ancient chain it once strained against finally means nothing to it. It enters a frenzy: its speed increases by 10 feet and it has advantage on the first bite it makes each turn.
Actions
Multiattack. The wolf makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d10 + 5) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 5) slashing damage.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Pounce (Reaction). When a creature the wolf can see moves within 10 feet of it, the wolf can move up to its speed toward that creature without provoking opportunity attacks.
A wolf the size of a warhorse, ribs straining beneath green-rotted hide, bone quills bristling down its spine and a snapped iron chain swinging loose at its throat. Its maw hangs open, tongue lolling, breath a fog of corruption.
Corrupted Fenrir, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINESpore-Carrier (signature). When the festerling dies, it bursts in a 10-foot cloud of rot. Each creature in the area must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or take 5 (2d4) poison damage and be poisoned until the end of its next turn.
Actions
Gnaw. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage plus 2 (1d4) poison damage.
Reactions
Cling. When a creature within 5 feet hits the festerling's master with a melee attack, the festerling latches on; the attacker must succeed on a DC 12 Strength check or have its speed halved until the start of its next turn.
A hunched, fungus-bearded scrap of the blight that pads at the wolf's heels, eager to spread what its master carries.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open with Pounce to close distance, then Multiattack the softest body it can reach and knock it prone. Kill-priority: any healer, since Rotting Bite locks down their hit point recovery. Pair it with a stronger blight-touched threat; alone at this tier it can drop a party fast, so run it as a single ambush apex.
Open by Pouncing onto a back-line caster and biting to prone-lock and shut off their healing. If the party clusters, ignore tanks and weave between them to keep biting the same victim until Rotting Bite stacks. When bloodied, Broken Fetter triggers its frenzy. This is the X-piece predator in a Bileblight encounter, not the boss; pair it with the Corrupted Tyr or Nefarok as the flagship.
Run it as the rot-hound flanking a larger blight-lord. Open with Pounce, then Multiattack to lock a target prone and deny healing through Rotting Bite. Kill-priority stays on healers and summoners; let the flagship pin the front while the wolf hunts the back. When bloodied it frenzies, so save its hardest turns for after it crosses half hit points.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Corrupted Fenrir?
Its native build is CR 6 (2,300 XP), tuned for a party of levels 5-10. Stat blocks for tiers 1-4 and 11-15 are included if you want to run it as a lower-level apex ambusher or a high-level flanker beside a bigger blight-lord.
Can Corrupted Fenrir be a companion or ally?
Not as written; it is a mindless rot-driven predator that heals no one and spreads its corruption to friend and foe alike. The included Festerling, Whelped works far better as a controlled minion, and a non-rotted dire wolf is the cleaner choice for any beastmaster who wants a loyal mount.
How do I keep Rotting Bite from feeling unfair?
Telegraph it: describe the wound festering and let players know healing is blocked only until the wolf's next turn. It is a tempo tax, not a death sentence. Lesser restoration, a paladin's lay on hands after the lock ends, or simply killing the wolf all clear the pressure.
