Corrupted Tyr — The Encounter

War-god of justice, his oath-hand rotted to a blight-claw · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.

Who Is Corrupted Tyr

Tyr was the bravest of the Aesir, the god who alone dared lay his hand between the wolf's jaws so his kin could bind the beast — and lost that hand when the trick was sprung. The grimoires of Bileblight tell a darker turning: that the stump never healed clean. A creeping mire-rot, seeded by Loki's bile, crept up the maimed arm and crowned it in chitin and weeping spores, until the god of just war became a vector of contagion. Yet his oath-bound heart endures the poison. He still keeps every promise he speaks, still drags law into lawless places at swordpoint, still sentences the guilty before he strikes them down. Warbands hire him as an executioner, never grasping that the verdict and the plague are now one and the same. Where his judgment falls, the condemned do not merely die — they wither, hollowed from the marrow out, until nothing answerable remains.

Oath-Sworn Resolve. Corrupted Tyr has advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened, and cannot be compelled to break an oath he has spoken aloud.

Blight-Hand (signature). The rotted claw that replaced his lost hand is a font of contagion. When a creature ends its turn within 5 feet of Tyr, it must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or take 7 (2d6) poison damage and have its hit point maximum reduced by that amount until it finishes a long rest. A creature reduced to 0 hit point maximum this way dies.

Actions

Multiattack. Corrupted Tyr makes two attacks: one with his runed sword and one with his blight-claw.

Runed Sword. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 5) slashing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Blight-Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (3d6 + 5) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) poison damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 17) by the chitinous claw.

Bonus Actions & Reactions

Sentence of the Wolf. Reaction (recharges after a short or long rest): When a creature Tyr can see hits him with an attack, he points his blight-claw and pronounces judgment. The attacker must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be marked; the next attack roll against the marked creature before the end of Tyr's next turn has advantage.

A horned, bare-chested war-god strides from the murk, one arm swollen into a green chitinous claw of running rot while his free hand grips a rune-etched blade. A grinning skull swings from his belt and a tattered crimson sash trails like a wound that will not close.

Bound Wolf (signature). Corrupted Tyr is a monstrous wolf chained to Tyr's purpose. While within 30 feet of Tyr, Corrupted Tyr has advantage on saving throws against being frightened and ignores difficult terrain.

Actions

Savage Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (3d8 + 5) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Reactions

Drag Down. When a creature within 5 feet that Corrupted Tyr has knocked prone tries to stand, Corrupted Tyr can use its reaction to make a Savage Bite against it.

The beast Tyr once bound now hunts at his heel, a leash of rune-iron binding judge to executioner.

How It Fights — by Tier

Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.

Tier 1Levels 1-4 · GUIDELINE
AC14HP8d8+24 (60) To-hit+4Save DC13

Open by grabbing the squishiest target with the blight-claw and dragging them away from healers, then carve with the sword. If the party clusters, let Blight-Hand whittle them every round while you focus one body at a time. He is a heavy mini-boss at this tier; pair him with a small wolf pack so the claw-grapple has bite.

Tier 2Levels 5-10 · GUIDELINE
AC16HP15d8+75 (142) To-hit+7Save DC14

Wade into the front line, knock the heaviest melee prone with the sword, then claw-grapple a caster to shut down concentration. Kill-priority is anyone who can cure the hit-point-max drain. Pairs cleanly under a flagship Norse warlord as the executioner piece that punishes anyone who breaks formation.

Tier 3Levels 11-15 · NATIVE
AC18HP21d8+105 (199) To-hit+9Save DC16

Open by marking the heaviest hitter with Sentence of the Wolf, then grapple-claw the controller and drag them into your aura so Blight-Hand grinds their hit-point maximum down. Kill-priority: whoever can lift the max-HP reduction, then concentration casters. He is an add-on, not a solo; field him beside a bigger Norse boss as the relentless executioner who never lets a target disengage.

Questions, Asked at the Table

What CR is Corrupted Tyr?

His home tier is CR 11 (7,200 XP), built for levels 11-15 with AC 18 and 199 HP. The tiers block also gives a level 5-10 build (CR ~6) and a level 1-4 build (CR ~2) using the exact same traits and actions with scaled numbers.

Can Corrupted Tyr be a companion or ally?

Yes, if the party can stomach his methods. As an oath-sworn judge he honors any promise spoken aloud, so a clear bargain makes him a reliable executioner-ally, but his Blight-Hand aura endangers allies who stand adjacent. He arrives with Grimfang, the oath-bound wolf, who fights at his side.

Why is the war-god of justice a poison-wielding threat?

In the Bileblight telling, the hand Tyr sacrificed to bind the wolf never healed — Loki's bile seeded a mire-rot that crowned the stump in chitin. His just heart endures the plague, but his touch now withers the guilty from the marrow out, fusing verdict and contagion into one.
