Dievas
Dievas — The Encounter
Baltic sky-father whose sun-wheel crowns the riven heavens · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Dievas
In the old Baltic faith Dievas is the calm, shining father of heaven, dwelling atop the cosmic hill where the sun-wheel turns and the bright Sun is married to silver Moon. He is no god of thunder or war but of order, oath, and the high pasture of the sky; farmers swore by him, and his blessing fell as fair weather on tilled fields. Where lesser powers rage, Dievas presides — he measures fate, parts the heavens to let the dawn through, and rends the dull earth so that mountains and standing stones rise as witnesses to his law. The sun-wheel behind his brow is the spoked sky itself, ever-turning. Those who honor their word and the boundary-stones of their land find him a patient, generous lord. Those who break covenant learn that the same hand that lifts the hills can crack the ground from under a liar's feet, and that no shadow conceals a thing from the father who watches from the top of the world.
Run Dievas in Sixty Seconds
- Hold the light. Sun-Wheel Radiance means no one hides from Dievas inside 20 feet — tell the rogue their Stealth is off the table near him, so they fight honest or stay back.
- Open ranged. Lead with Cleaving Sunlight on the enemy caster or healer; a blind on a DC 16 Con save guts their next turn before melee even starts.
- Kill-priority: anything blinded. Pile attacks on the creature he just blinded — it has disadvantage and is the cheapest kill on the board.
- When bloodied, take to the sky. Use Skyward Stride to fly out of melee reach and pelt the party with radiant attacks; let Earthrending Step punish whoever chases him.
- Three ways to run him: as a chapter villain (T1, with cultists), a tough solo (T2, no companion), or a full legendary god-fight (T3 with Auseklis and all three legendary actions).
Dievas
Large celestial, lawful good
CR 11 · 7,200 XP · GUIDELINESun-Wheel Radiance. Dievas sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for another 20 feet. The first time a creature enters this bright light on a turn or starts its turn there, the wheel above his brow flares: a hostile creature must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be unable to benefit from being unseen (it cannot hide from him) until the start of its next turn.
Sky-Father's Resolve. Dievas has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Magic Weapons. Dievas's weapon attacks are magical.
Actions
Multiattack. Dievas makes two attacks with his Heaven-Spear, or two with Cleaving Sunlight.
Heaven-Spear. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 6) piercing damage plus 11 (2d10) radiant damage.
Cleaving Sunlight. Ranged Spell Attack: +9 to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 22 (4d8 + 4) radiant damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of its next turn.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Earthrending Step (Reaction). When a creature Dievas can see hits him with a melee attack, he answers by splitting the ground beneath the attacker. The attacker must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or take 9 (2d8) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone as stone shards erupt around it.
Legendary Actions (3/Round)
Spear Strike. Dievas makes one Heaven-Spear attack.
Skyward Stride (Costs 1 Action). Dievas flies up to half his fly speed without provoking opportunity attacks. If he ends this movement in the air, his next attack this round deals an extra 9 (2d8) radiant damage.
Riven Heavens (Costs 2 Actions). Dievas calls a column of crystalline light onto a point he can see within 60 feet. Each creature within 10 feet of that point must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 18 (4d8) radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. The ground there becomes difficult terrain (jutting stone) until the start of his next turn.
A towering sky-father in heavenly plate stands within a ring of shattered earth, a radiant sun-wheel crowning his horned helm as the very ground splits skyward at his command.
Dievas, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEHerald of Dawn (signature). While within 30 feet of Dievas, Dievas and Dievas each have advantage on the first attack roll they make each round. Dievas can see normally in magical and nonmagical darkness out to 60 feet.
Actions
Star-Lance. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) radiant damage.
Reactions
Dawnward Guard. When an ally within 10 feet is hit by an attack, Dievas interposes a shield of light, reducing the damage by 9 (2d8).
The bright morning star rides at the sky-father's side, a youthful celestial whose lance trails the first light of day.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open with Cleaving Sunlight on the squishiest caster to blind it, then close with the Heaven-Spear. If foes cluster, drop Riven Heavens (scaled to 2d6) on the pack. At this size he is a chapter villain, not a god-fight; pair him with cultist fodder so the party feels the menace before they hit him.
Lead with Sun-Wheel Radiance positioning so rogues can't hide, then Multiattack the front-liner. Kill-priority is healers — Cleaving Sunlight's blind shuts them down. Use Earthrending Step to knock melee attackers prone and break their momentum. A strong solo at this tier even without his Morning Star.
Run him as a true solo boss: open by flying up with Skyward Stride for the radiant bonus, then rain Cleaving Sunlight. Spend legendary actions on Riven Heavens to control the floor and Spear Strike the most exposed PC. Kill-priority his blinded targets; when bloodied, stay airborne and force Dex saves. Add Auseklis if the party is six-plus or optimized.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Dievas?
Natively CR 11 (Tier 3, ~levels 11-15), built as a legendary solo boss with three legendary actions. Scaled-down stat blocks are provided for Tier 1 (~CR 2 feel) and Tier 2 (~CR 6 feel) so he can headline lower-level tables as a sky-father villain.
Can Dievas be a companion or ally?
As a benevolent sky-father he makes a powerful patron rather than a hireling — he might grant an oath-bound party his blessing or send Auseklis, the Morning Star, to fight beside them. The companion block (Auseklis, AC 15, 117 HP) is built to be that ally; Dievas himself is best kept as a quest-giving deity or final boss.
Is Dievas IP-safe to publish?
Yes. Dievas is the supreme sky-god of pre-Christian Baltic religion, fully public-domain folklore. He is statted as a generic SRD celestial with the sun-wheel, oath-keeping, and earth-rending motifs of his genuine mythology — no Wizards of the Coast cosmology, ranks, or named deities are used.
