Echoes of the Nile — The Encounter

The War Titan of the Black Land, tomb-king's living siege · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.

Who Is Echoes of the Nile

When the old river-kings feared their tombs would be plundered, the highest of their embalmer-priests bound a warrior's soul into a body raised from sacred clay and gold, swearing it to march until the Black Land itself was avenged. Sekhem-Rekhyt, the War Titan, is that oath given flesh: a tank of chaos that knows neither fear nor fatigue, only the command to advance. Its green heart-jewel is said to hold the breath of a slain general, and so long as it glows the titan cannot truly fall. Where it walks, the lesser dead of its column, bandaged spearmen and serpent-faced reapers, rise to its cadence. Grimoires warn that the titan does not hunt; it besieges. It chooses a foe, builds momentum across open ground, and arrives like a collapsing pyramid. Only by shattering the jewel, the scribes insist, can the marching ever be made to stop.

Tireless Bulwark. The titan was raised to never yield. It is immune to the frightened condition, and while it has more than half its hit points it has advantage on saving throws against being knocked prone, grappled, or moved against its will.

Crushing Momentum. Signature. If the titan moves at least 20 ft. in a straight line toward a creature before hitting it with a melee attack, the target takes an extra 9 (2d8) bludgeoning damage and must succeed on a DC 16 Strength save or be knocked prone. The titan may then make one fist attack against a different creature within reach as part of the same action.

Actions

Multiattack. The titan makes two fist attacks, or one fist attack and one Sundering Stomp.

Fist. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 24 (4d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage, and if the target is Large or smaller it is pushed up to 10 ft. away.

Sundering Stomp. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one prone or grappled target. Hit: 31 (4d12 + 6) bludgeoning damage. The target must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution save or have its speed halved until the end of its next turn.

Bonus Actions & Reactions

Earth-Splitting Roar. (Reaction, recharge 5-6) When the titan is reduced to half its hit points or fewer, it bellows. Each creature of its choice within 20 ft. that can hear it must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution save or take 11 (2d10) thunder damage and be deafened until the end of its next turn.

Legendary Actions (3/Round)

Stride. The titan moves up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Backhand. The titan makes one fist attack.

Quake Step (Costs 2 Actions). The titan stamps the ground. Each creature within 10 ft. must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity save or take 14 (4d6) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone.

A bare-chested colossus armored in gilded pectoral plate and pharaonic bracers, a green heart-jewel burning at its chest and a jackal-faced helm crowning its brow. It strides ahead of a column of bandaged spear-bearers and serpent-headed reapers, the desert trembling under each footfall.

Venom Reaper (signature). Echoes of the Nile's khopesh drips with serpent venom. Once per turn when it hits a creature, the target takes an extra 7 (2d6) poison damage and must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution save or be poisoned until the end of its next turn.

Actions

Khopesh. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) slashing damage.

Reactions

Coiling Withdraw. When a creature ends its turn within 5 ft. of Echoes of the Nile, the Serpent General may move up to 15 ft. without provoking opportunity attacks.

The silent Serpent General, a serpent-faced reaper whose blades carry the venom of the river's depths, fighting at the titan's flank as its captain.

How It Fights — by Tier

Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.

Tier 1Levels 1-4 · GUIDELINE
AC14HP6d10+18 (51) To-hit+4Save DC13

Run it as a lone brute ambush: it charges the most exposed PC with Crushing Momentum to knock them prone, then stomps. Keep it in the open so it always has room to build momentum. Without legendary actions at this tier, treat it as a deadly mini-boss, not a true solo.

Tier 2Levels 5-10 · GUIDELINE
AC16HP13d10+52 (124) To-hit+7Save DC15

Open by charging the heaviest melee defender to knock them prone, then Sundering Stomp. When clustered, position for Earth-Splitting Roar at half HP. Kill-priority is whoever buffs the party; pair it with two serpent reapers as a flanking line.

Tier 3Levels 11-15 · NATIVE
AC18HP21d10+84 (199) To-hit+9Save DC16

Run it solo or as the centerpiece of an Egyptian warband. Open with a straight-line charge (Crushing Momentum) on the squishiest reachable PC, knock prone, then Sundering Stomp. Spend legendary actions on Backhand and Quake Step to punish clustering; trigger Earth-Splitting Roar at half HP. Kill-priority: knock down and pin the back-line caster.

Questions, Asked at the Table

What CR is Echoes of the Nile?

The War Titan's home tier is CR 11 (Tier 3, levels 11-15) at AC 18, 199 HP, +9 to hit, save DC 16. It is solo-capable thanks to its legendary actions and Earth-Splitting Roar reaction; the Tier 1 and Tier 2 lines down-scale the exact same kit for lower parties.

Can Echoes of the Nile be a companion or ally?

The titan itself is a boss, but its captain Nehebkau, the Serpent General (AC 15, 119 HP, venomous khopesh) works as a bound NPC ally or lieutenant. Use the companion block to field him beside or in place of the titan for a smaller fight.

How do I run the rest of the warband?

The render's bandaged spearmen, shield-bearers, and serpent-faced reapers are the add- on pieces around this flagship. Drop them in as native-tier minions (guards or cultists reskinned) so the titan stays the centerpiece while they screen its approach and pin the party in place.
