Eki
Eki — The Encounter
Radiant daughter of the dawn, who summons living water · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Eki
In the old reckoning of the Euskal peoples, Eki is the daughter of the earth-mother and the first light to climb each morning from the mouth of the western sea. The folk would greet her at sunrise with the words "Eki amandrea, zeruan zer berri?" — Grandmother Sun, what news in the heavens? — for it was she who carried the night's secrets back into the day. Witches and night-walking dead feared her gaze, and travelers cut the petals of the eguzkilore, her flower, into their doors so that her radiance might guard the threshold until dawn. This image shows her at the shore where light meets water, calling a serpent of living tide to drive back those who would steal the moon's hidden lore. She does not seek battle, yet she will not see the helpless overrun; her water answers her as faithfully as the morning answers the dark.
Run Eki in Sixty Seconds
- Hold the serpent. Keep Coiling Tide active every round — it punishes anyone who ends their turn within 15 ft. and slows them, which is most of your value.
- Open with Drowning Coils if two or more PCs stand in a line; the lingering difficult terrain shapes the whole fight afterward.
- Kill-priority: the back-line. Use Torrent Lash's 10-ft. pull to yank an isolated caster or healer into your bubble of cold and dawnlight.
- When bloodied, stop trading blows — fall back behind Drowning Coils' difficult terrain and spend Sun's Mercy to keep your flagship boss standing.
- Three ways to run her: dawn-priestess support beside a fiend boss, lone shoreline guardian of a sacred site, or the water-mage half of a duo with a sword-saint twin.
Eki
Medium celestial, neutral good
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINECoiling Tide. Eki is wreathed in a serpent of living water. When a creature she can see ends its turn within 15 feet of her, she may have the serpent lash it: the target takes 7 (2d6) cold damage and its speed is halved until the start of its next turn. Eki can dismiss or re-form the serpent as a bonus action.
Dawnlit Body. Eki sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for another 20 feet. A creature that hits her with a melee attack while within this bright light takes 4 (1d8) radiant damage.
Actions
Multiattack. Eki makes two Torrent Lash attacks, or makes one Torrent Lash attack and casts a cantrip.
Torrent Lash. Melee Spell Attack: +7 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (4d6+4) cold damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be pulled up to 10 feet toward Eki.
Drowning Coils (Recharge 5-6). Eki sends her water serpent surging in a 30-foot line that is 5 feet wide. Each creature in the line must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 33 (6d10) cold damage and being knocked prone on a failed save, or half damage and not knocked prone on a success. The watery line then lingers, making that area difficult terrain until the end of Eki's next turn.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Reform the Serpent. Bonus Action. Eki conjures, dismisses, or relocates her Coiling Tide serpent to wrap around herself or a point within 15 feet.
Sun's Mercy. Reaction, when an ally Eki can see within 30 feet takes damage: Eki bathes them in dawnlight, reducing the damage by 11 (2d10) and ending one disease or the blinded condition on them.
A golden-clad woman crowned in light, one hand raised as a vast serpent of liquid sunlight twists from the scorched earth at her command.
Eki, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEThreshold Light (signature). While within 10 feet of the Eki, allies have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened, and undead within that radius cannot regain hit points.
Actions
Petal Flare. Ranged Spell Attack: +6 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (3d6+4) radiant damage, and if the target is undead it is also blinded until the end of its next turn.
Reactions
Dawn Ward. When an adjacent ally is hit by an attack, the Eki flares; the attacker must reroll the attack and use the lower result.
A blazing sun-flower of woven light, the eguzkilore that the old folk pinned to their doors to turn back the things that walk by night.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open with Drowning Coils to soften a clustered front line, then lash the toughest melee threat with Torrent Lash to drag it off the party. Keep Coiling Tide up so anyone who closes pays cold damage. Pair her with a bigger flagship boss — she is the control-caster piece, not the kill.
Open Drowning Coils across a clustered party, then Multiattack the squishiest caster, using the pull to strand it inside Coiling Tide range. Kill-priority is whoever can dispel or out-range her water. Spend Sun's Mercy to keep your flagship boss alive — Eki is the support backbone of an encounter, not its centerpiece.
Lead with Drowning Coils to fix the difficult terrain, then peel the party's healer with Torrent Lash pulls. Hold Sun's Mercy for the boss she shields. At this tier she should never solo — run her beside a true legendary threat and let her water deny the ground while the boss commits the kills.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Eki?
Her home build is CR 6 (2,300 XP), tuned for a 5th-10th level party. Scale her down to roughly CR 2 for tier 1 or up to about CR 11 for tier 3 using the stat bands in the tiers table — her traits and actions stay identical, only the numbers move.
Can Eki be a companion or ally?
Yes. As a neutral good daughter of the dawn she makes a natural patron or guardian ally — she can shield a wounded party member with Sun's Mercy and turn back undead with her dawnlight. She is not solo_capable, so as an enemy she should accompany a stronger flagship boss rather than fight alone.
Is Eki's water cold or radiant damage?
Her conjured serpent deals cold damage (Torrent Lash, Drowning Coils, Coiling Tide), while her sunlit body and the eguzkilore companion deal radiant. Enemies resistant to cold should be punished by her dawnlight instead, and her cold can be flavored as scalding tide or icy spray to taste.
