Gemini — The Encounter

The Mirrored Twins, two souls bound beneath one star · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.

Who Is Gemini

The astrologers name them the Twins, but the old grimoires are plainer: one soul was poured into two vessels, and neither vessel can die while the other breathes. The Mirrored Twins drift the threshold between the mortal sky and the courts of the fair folk, never speaking aloud, for each already knows the other's mind. They appear where a choice must be made and a price must be paid in equal measure, offering the same boon twice and demanding the same forfeit twice. To strike one is to be struck back by the other; to wound the right hand is to bleed the left. Hunters who have faced them swear the second twin always stood exactly where the first was not, as though the air itself held a glass between them. Sever the bond, the wisest say, and you do not slay one creature but enrage what remains, for grief in a being that shares a single heart burns brighter than any blade.

Twin-Bound. Gemini is two bodies that share one will. While both halves are within 60 feet of each other, each has advantage on saving throws and cannot be surprised. If one half is reduced to 0 hit points, the survivor is enraged: it deals an extra 7 (2d6) radiant damage with every weapon attack until the encounter ends. The twins are statted as a single combatant; if you want a true duo, run two copies sharing one initiative.

Mirror Step. When one half moves, the other half may immediately move up to the same distance without provoking opportunity attacks, mirroring the first across an unseen axis.

Magic Resistance. Gemini has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Actions

Multiattack. Gemini makes three Twinblade attacks. If both halves are above 0 hit points, it may replace one attack with Mirrored Reflection (recharge 5-6).

Twinblade. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8+4) slashing damage plus 4 (1d8) radiant damage as the mirror-edge flares.

Starlight Lash. Ranged Spell Attack: +7 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (3d6+4) radiant damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of its next turn.

Mirrored Reflection (Recharge 5-6). The twins lash out in perfect unison at all creatures in a 15-foot cone from each half. Each creature in either cone must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 27 (6d8) radiant damage on a failure, or half as much on a success. A creature caught in both cones makes the save only once but with disadvantage.

Bonus Actions & Reactions

Sister's Shield. Reaction: When the other half of Gemini takes damage while within 60 feet, this half can halve that damage, drawing the wound across their shared bond.

A single sculpt of two identical winged women, joined at a mirror axis: flame-shaped hair, feathered fey collars, and vine-like wings curling into a star-arch above. Whatever one twin does, the other does in flawless reflection.

Shared Breath (signature). While within 30 feet of you, Gemini adds your Charisma modifier to its saving throws, and you may use its reaction as if it were your own once per round.

Actions

Twin Spear. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6+4) piercing damage plus 3 (1d6) radiant damage.

Reactions

Mirror Guard. When you take damage while Gemini is within 30 feet, it can move up to its speed toward you and reduce that damage by 7 (2d6), taking the same amount itself.

The lesser of the two souls, bound to a single mortal as ward and reflection, mirroring its charge's every step until parted only by death.

How It Fights — by Tier

Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.

Tier 1Levels 1-4 · GUIDELINE
AC14HP8d8+16 (52) To-hit+4Save DC13

Open with Starlight Lash from the air to blind the party's healer, then dive to Twinblade. Keep both halves within 60 ft. for the Twin-Bound saves. Pair with a stronger centerpiece; the twins are a flanking duo, not the headline.

Tier 2Levels 5-10 · NATIVE
AC16HP16d8+48 (120) To-hit+7Save DC15

Split the halves to flank the front line, then snap together with Mirrored Reflection when two or more PCs cluster. Kill-priority is the half nearest the casters; if one half drops, the survivor gains +2d6 radiant, so finish both fast or not at all. Best run alongside a bigger boss as its mirrored honor-guard.

Tier 3Levels 11-15 · GUIDELINE
AC18HP24d8+96 (204) To-hit+9Save DC17

Treat each half as a roaming Mirrored Reflection battery; keep them on opposite flanks so cones overlap on the cluster. Use Mirror Step to reposition both at once and punish movement. Pair with a heavier solo threat; the twins lock down the backline while it carries the fight.

Questions, Asked at the Table

What CR is Gemini?

Natively CR 6 (Tier 2, levels 5-10): AC 16, 120 HP, +7 to hit, save DC 15. Scaled stat lines for CR 2-ish (T1) and CR 11-ish (T3) are in the tiers block, with identical traits and actions across all three.

Can Gemini be a companion or ally?

Yes. Castor, Bound is the lesser of the two souls split off as an ally (AC 14, 72 HP) with Shared Breath, a Twin Spear attack, and the Mirror Guard reaction that shares damage with its bonded charge.

Is Gemini solo-capable?

No. It has no legendary actions, so it plays best as an add-on, a mirrored guard or moral gatekeeper paired with a heavier centerpiece. For a tougher standalone fight, run two copies sharing one initiative as a true duo.
