Inmyeonjo
Inmyeonjo — The Encounter
Human-faced bird of peace, herald of long-lived years · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Inmyeonjo
In the old palace scrolls the inmyeonjo is drawn at the eaves of royal tombs, a bird with the calm face of a court lady, and its appearance is set down as a sign of a peaceful and long-lived age. The grimoires of the eastern courts hold that it sings only when a realm has earned its grace, and that to hear its cry without fear is to be promised many more years. It does not hunt; it presides. Yet those who profane a tomb or break a sworn peace find the human face turned upon them, and the same throat that blessed the just now looses a cry that splits stone and sense alike. Scholars warn that the bird reads the thread of a life at a glance, naming aloud how long one has to live — a mercy to the faithful and a sentence to the oathbreaker. Where it nests, drought lifts and quarrels still.
Run Inmyeonjo in Sixty Seconds
- Keep it airborne. Fly 70 ft. with a measly 20 ft. ground speed — never let it get pinned. Use Skyward Veer the instant a melee attacker connects to peel off without provoking.
- Open with the mark. First turn, use Omen of Long Life on the most dangerous PC, then Multiattack or sing. The mark tells the table this bird shapes fate, and it sets up your Resonant Song later.
- Song is your spike. Resonant Song (Recharge 5-6) is a 30-ft. cone of thunder + deafen. Hold it until 3 or more PCs cluster, then drop it; otherwise just Talons + Buffeting Wing to shove and prone.
- When bloodied, kite. Stop trading and play keep-away — stay 60+ ft. up, ping with the recharge song, and force ranged PCs to spend turns chasing while your flagship boss does the work.
- Three ways to run it: herald (buff allies with Auspicious Cry, mark targets), shover (Buffeting Wing to prone and scatter a line), or artillery (pure Resonant Song kite). Pick one per round and commit.
Inmyeonjo
Large celestial, lawful good
CR 6 · 2,300 XP · GUIDELINEAuspicious Cry. When the inmyeonjo first sings each combat, every friendly creature that can hear it gains advantage on its next saving throw against being charmed or frightened (no action; triggers at the start of the inmyeonjo's first turn).
Omen of Long Life. (signature) The inmyeonjo's human face foretells the years a soul has left. Once per turn when it can see a creature within 60 feet, it may declare that creature marked by omen until the start of its next turn. While marked, the first time the creature would drop to 0 hit points it instead drops to 1 — but it also has disadvantage on saving throws against the inmyeonjo's Resonant Song.
Actions
Multiattack. The inmyeonjo makes two attacks: one with its Talons and one with its Buffeting Wing, or it uses Resonant Song.
Talons. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (3d8 + 4) slashing damage.
Buffeting Wing. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be pushed 10 feet away and knocked prone.
Resonant Song (Recharge 5-6). The inmyeonjo loses its human composure for a heartbeat and looses a piercing cry in a 30-foot cone. Each creature there makes a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, taking 27 (6d8) thunder damage and being deafened until the end of its next turn on a failure, or half damage and no deafness on a success.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Skyward Veer. Reaction: When a creature the inmyeonjo can see hits it with a melee attack, it beats its wings and flies up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
A serene woman's face crowns a great bird whose orange-gold wings span wider than a doorway, trailing rivers of plumage and a long feathered tail. It does not stoop to kill so much as glide above the fray, pronouncing fates and warding the worthy.
Inmyeonjo, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEShared Omen (signature). While within 30 feet of Inmyeonjo, an allied creature that drops to 0 hit points may make a death saving throw immediately instead of falling unconscious first.
Actions
Raking Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage.
Reactions
Sheltering Wing. Reaction: When an ally within 5 feet is hit by an attack, Inmyeonjo spreads a wing; the ally gains a +2 bonus to AC against that attack.
A smaller cousin-bird with bright copper feathers and a half-formed human cast to its face, ever circling its elder and echoing its blessings.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open in the air with Resonant Song to deafen a clustered front line, then mark the enemy healer with Omen of Long Life so the party feels the threat. Keep it aloft and use Skyward Veer the moment a melee fighter reaches it. Pair it with a grounded brute that wants the party to hold still.
This is the herald piece, not the boss — pair it with a bigger ground threat it can buff via Auspicious Cry. Open by marking the deadliest PC, then alternate Resonant Song (when 3+ are clustered) with Talons-and-Wing on whoever closes. Kill-priority for the party should be obvious: cut it down before it sings twice. Fly out of reach and let the flagship do the killing.
Run it as the airborne support to a true centerpiece boss. Lead with Omen of Long Life on the boss's chosen target, hover at 60+ feet, and recharge Resonant Song into the densest knot of PCs. When bloodied it stops trading blows and plays pure kite — Skyward Veer on every melee hit. It folds fast if focused, so make the party choose between it and the flagship.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Inmyeonjo?
Its home stat block is CR 6 (2,300 XP), tuned for a level 5-10 party. The record also gives CR-2 numbers for tiers 1 and a beefed line for tier 3 (~CR 11); traits and actions stay identical, only AC, HP, to-hit, save DC, and damage shift between bands.
Can Inmyeonjo be a companion or ally?
Yes. As a lawful good celestial omen-bird it makes a natural patron or guardian — its Auspicious Cry and Omen of Long Life shield allies from death and fear. Use the bundled companion Geumsae, the Lesser Plume (AC 14, 74 HP) as a player-side ally version, or run the full block as an NPC protector.
Is Inmyeonjo a solo boss?
No. It has no legendary actions and is designed as an add-on herald that buffs a larger threat, not a centerpiece. Pair it with a grounded boss; on its own a focused party will down it before it sings twice.
