Sidapa
Sidapa — The Encounter
Horned god of death who measures every mortal lifespan · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Sidapa
In the highland reckonings of the Visayan peoples, Sidapa is the horned lord of death who dwells upon the world-mountain and tends the tree whose every leaf is a mortal life. At each birth he measures the length of a soul's allotted span, notching it upon his sacred trunk, and when the marked day arrives he descends with rattling chains to escort the spirit to the underworld of Sulad. He is no cruel tyrant but a keeper of order, neither bribed by offerings nor moved by tears, for the count he sets is the count that must be paid. The bloodied cocoon beneath his feet is the husk of a life shed too soon, and the chains that wind across it are the threads of those whose hour he has come to claim. Mortals do not pray to escape Sidapa; they pray only that their thread be measured true and that he find them ready when at last he calls their name.
Run Sidapa in Sixty Seconds
- Who he is: a horned death-god boss who binds souls with chains and counts every mortal's days. He is solo-capable: two legendary options plus the Death's Reproach reaction let him out-act a four-PC party.
- Open with Reaping Verdict if the party is clustered, otherwise chain the frontline anchor and Drag the Chain to pull them off their healer.
- Kill-priority is anyone already below half hit points — Allotted Span cripples their speed and accuracy, and Measure the Thread sets them up to be one-shot.
- When bloodied, stop trading blows: spend reactions on Death's Reproach to cancel the party's biggest attack or spell each round, and drag a victim onto the cocoon where they can't be healed.
- Three ways to run him: a lone reaper hunting one doomed PC; a measured judge who calls out 'allotted years' before each verdict; or a chained jailer who grapples and drags the party one by one to their reckoning.
Sidapa
Medium celestial, lawful neutral
CR 11 · 7,200 XP · GUIDELINEAllotted Span. Sidapa knows the exact remaining lifespan of every creature he can see. The first time each turn he reduces a creature to half its hit points or fewer, that creature must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or have its speed halved and its attacks suffer disadvantage until the end of its next turn as its thread of life pulls taut.
Magic Resistance. Sidapa has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Actions
Multiattack. Sidapa makes two Soul-Chain attacks and uses Reaping Verdict if it is available.
Soul-Chain. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (3d8 + 5) bludgeoning damage plus 13 (3d8) necrotic damage, and if the target is Large or smaller it is grappled (escape DC 16) by the binding chain.
Reaping Verdict (Recharge 5-6). Sidapa names a number that is each creature's allotted years. Each creature of his choice within 30 feet must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw, taking 36 (8d8) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. A creature reduced to 0 hit points by this damage cannot be stabilized until Sidapa is slain.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Death's Reproach. Reaction: When a creature Sidapa can see within 30 feet makes an attack roll or casts a spell, Sidapa lashes a chain at it. The creature takes 9 (2d8) necrotic damage and must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or its attack or spell fails and is wasted.
Legendary Actions (3/Round)
Drag the Chain. Sidapa moves up to his speed without provoking opportunity attacks. A creature grappled by him is dragged along with him.
Measure the Thread. Sidapa targets one creature he can see within 60 feet. It must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be marked until the start of Sidapa's next turn; the next attack against the marked creature has advantage and deals an extra 10 (3d6) necrotic damage.
Reaping Verdict (Costs 2 Actions). Sidapa uses Reaping Verdict if it is available, or makes one Soul-Chain attack if it is not.
A horned deity with wind-torn white hair and a tattered cape descends upon a bloodied chrysalis, dragging soul-heavy chains that bind the dead to their final reckoning.
Sidapa, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEScent of the Dying (signature). Sidapa has advantage on attack rolls against any creature that is below half its hit points, having caught the scent of a fraying thread.
Actions
Soul-Rend Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) piercing damage plus 9 (2d8) necrotic damage, and the target cannot regain hit points until the start of its next turn.
Reactions
Drag to the Reckoning. Reaction: When an enemy within 5 feet of Sidapa tries to move away, Sidapa clamps down; the creature must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or have its movement reduced to 0 for that turn.
A gaunt, chain-collared hound that pads at the death-god's heel and hunts the scent of mortals whose hour has come.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open with Reaping Verdict to soften a clustered party, then chain the toughest melee fighter and drag them off support. Kill-priority is anyone below half (Allotted Span shreds them); save Death's Reproach for the enemy caster. Pair him with a swarm of cultists so a low-tier party can't focus him down.
Lead with Measure the Thread on the squishiest target, then Reaping Verdict where bodies bunch. Grapple-and-drag the frontliner away from the healer so Allotted Span sticks. When bloodied, lean on Death's Reproach to brick the party's burst turn; pair him with a chrysalis spawn or guardian to absorb damage.
He plays up a tier on his own action economy, so run him as the centerpiece. Open by chaining and dragging the melee anchor, drop Reaping Verdict on the cluster, and spend legendary actions on Measure-the-Thread + a chain strike to delete the marked target. Hold Death's Reproach for the round the party tries to nova; when bloodied, drag a victim onto the cocoon and chew through their healing with sustained necrotic pressure.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Sidapa?
His home tier is CR 11 (Tier 3, levels 11-15), built as a solo centerpiece — his legendary actions and Death's Reproach reaction make him play up a tier, so his native sheet sits one band low for that reason. Scaled stat blocks for Tier 1 (~CR 2) and Tier 2 (~CR 6) are included if you want him as a recurring threat at lower levels.
Can Sidapa be a companion or ally?
Sidapa himself is a god of death and works best as an adversary or an aloof, dangerous patron. If you want allied muscle from this set, use the included companion Bantay the Chain-Hound, who hunts the dying and drags fleeing enemies back to the fight.
Is Sidapa good as a single-boss encounter?
Yes. With two legendary action options and a punishing reaction, he has the action economy to challenge a full party alone at his native tier. For longer fights or higher levels, pair him with Bantay or a chrysalis-spawned minion so the party must split focus.
