Thor
Thor — The Encounter
The Thunderer, hammer-wielding warden of the storm · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Thor
He is the Thunderer, son of the sky-father and the earth, defender of gods and mortals against the giants of frost and storm. Where his hammer falls, the heavens answer: thunder rolls, lightning forks, and the mountains shudder. The grimoires name him a tireless warden who rides the storm to the world's edge and back, slaying serpents and stone-kin without rest. His hammer was forged by dwarven smiths and returns to his grip however far he flings it, so that no foe is ever beyond his reach. Sailors pray to him before the squall; farmers bless the rain his wrath brings. He is not subtle and he is not cruel, but he is relentless, and the boastful giant who mocks him learns that the sky itself bears a grudge. To stand against the Thunderer is to stand against weather, and weather cannot be bargained with.
Run Thor in Sixty Seconds
- Solo boss. Thor out-acts a clustered party: Multiattack plus three legendary actions per round. Keep him moving with Thunderstep so the party can't pin and focus him.
- Open with Thunderclap. If two or more PCs are within 20 feet, lead with it for the stun, then Multiattack the lowest-AC striker while they're locked down.
- Kill-priority: casters and healers. Use the returning hammer at range to chase anyone hanging back; nobody is out of reach of the Thunderer.
- When bloodied (89 HP), lean on Call the Storm and Bulwark of Thunder reaction backlash to tax every melee attacker, and keep Thunderclap recharging for the stun.
- Three ways to run him: lone storm-duel that punishes clumping; chariot rush with Tanngrisnir flanking and trampling the prone; or warden-of-the-pass holding a bridge while giants close in behind the party.
Thor
Medium celestial, chaotic good
CR 11 · 7,200 XP · GUIDELINEStorm-Forged Might. Thor's weapon attacks are magical. When he hits with his hammer, the attack deals an extra 9 (2d8) lightning damage (included below).
Returning Hammer. His signature. Thor can hurl his hammer to a point within 60 feet as part of a ranged attack; whether it hits or misses, the hammer flies back to his hand at the start of his next turn. While the hammer is away, Thor can call it back as a bonus action, and any creature in the line it travels takes 9 (2d8) lightning damage (DC 16 Dexterity save for half).
Actions
Multiattack. Thor makes two hammer attacks.
Stormbreaker (Hammer). Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft. or range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8+6) bludgeoning damage plus 9 (2d8) lightning damage. On a melee hit, the target must succeed on a DC 16 Strength save or be knocked prone.
Thunderclap (Recharge 5-6). Thor slams his hammer down, loosing a peal of thunder in a 20-foot radius. Each creature there makes a DC 16 Constitution save, taking 33 (6d10) thunder damage and being stunned until the end of its next turn on a failure, or half damage and no stun on a success.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Bulwark of Thunder. Reaction. When a creature Thor can see hits him with an attack, he answers with a crackling backlash: the attacker takes 11 (2d10) lightning damage and must succeed on a DC 16 Strength save or be pushed 10 feet away.
Legendary Actions (3/Round)
Hammer Strike. Thor makes one hammer attack.
Call the Storm (Costs 2 Actions). Thor points to a spot he can see within 120 feet; lightning lances down in a 5-foot radius. Each creature there makes a DC 16 Dexterity save, taking 18 (4d8) lightning damage on a failure, or half as much on a success.
Thunderstep. Thor moves up to half his speed without provoking opportunity attacks. The first creature he passes within 5 feet of takes 9 (2d8) thunder damage.
A broad-shouldered warrior in gilded scale, his red beard whipped by a wind only he feels, hurls a rune-graven hammer wreathed in branching lightning. His blue cape streams like a thunderhead at his back.
Thor, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINEStorm-Goat (signature). The goat is immune to lightning and thunder damage. When it is reduced to 0 hit points, it can be restored to full health at the next dawn by the one who bound it.
Actions
Ram. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8+3) bludgeoning damage, and a Large or smaller target must succeed on a DC 14 Strength save or be knocked prone.
Reactions
Trample the Fallen. When a prone creature within 5 feet stands up, the goat makes a Ram attack against it.
A great bristled goat with storm-grey hide, eyes lit like distant lightning, that pulls the Thunderer's chariot across the sky and lowers its horns at any who threaten its master.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open by hurling the hammer at the spellcaster, then close to melee and try to knock the front-liner prone. If foes cluster, save Thunderclap for two or more in the blast. Pair this scaled-down Thunderer with frost giant minions or a storm-cult lair so the party fights the weather, not just the man.
Lead with a Thunderclap into the tightest cluster to stun, then Multiattack the lowest-AC striker. Use Returning Hammer to keep pressure on a fleeing caster. Run him alongside giant-kin or a smaller boss; his lightning backlash punishes melee swarms, so spread your party out.
Open with Call the Storm on the densest knot, then Thunderclap to stun and Multiattack the squishiest target; kill-priority is healers and casters before they can answer the lightning. Spend legendary actions on Hammer Strike and Thunderstep to stay mobile and out of focus-fire. As a solo boss he punishes clumping hard, so make the party choose between spreading thin or eating the storm.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Thor?
His home stat block is Challenge 11 (7,200 XP), tuned for an 11th-15th level party. Because he is a true solo boss with legendary actions and a punishing reaction, his sheet is dropped one band from raw native numbers so the kit lets him play up; scaled cards for tiers 1-2 are included for lower-level tables.
Can Thor be a companion or ally?
Yes, though as a thunder-god he is a formidable patron rather than a hireling. For a more practical ally use his bound storm-goat Tanngrisnir (AC 13, 105 HP), who rams foes prone and tramples the fallen, and never strays far from the one who holds the Thunderer's favor.
Is Thor immune to lightning?
He resists lightning and thunder damage rather than being outright immune, so a clever caster can still chip at him with stored bolts, just at half effect. He is, however, immune to being frightened, so fear-based control will not slow the Thunderer down.
