Virgo — The Encounter

The Winged Maiden of the Harvest Star · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.

Who Is Virgo

Of the twelve heavenly signs, the sixth is set under the Maiden, she who gathers the harvest of souls and weighs the worth of the reaped. The grimoires name her a celestial of the threshing-floor: where she alights, the wounded are spared the final cut, and the wicked are blinded by the radiance of her judgment. She bears two emblems. The glaive is the sickle of the autumn star, with which she severs corruption from the living. The scepter, crowned with a heart, is the measure of mercy, by which she restores those whom the dark would claim. Astrologers hold that she answers prayers offered at the equinox, descending on feathered wings to shield the faithful and to sort the chaff of the battlefield. To stand within her sigil is to be counted among the spared. To stand against it is to be found wanting, and to be cut down beneath the harvest of the heavens.

Magic Weapons. The maiden's weapon attacks are magical.

Harvest Sigil. Signature. The Virgo sign blazes above her in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on her. While in this light, each ally has advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened, and the first time on each of its turns an ally is reduced to 0 hit points within the light, it instead drops to 1 hit point. The maiden can move the sphere up to 30 feet as part of her movement.

Innate Spellcasting. The maiden's spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 15). She can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components: at will: guiding bolt, lesser restoration; 1/day each: cure wounds (3rd level), daylight.

Actions

Multiattack. The maiden makes two attacks: one with her Harvest Glaive and one with her Star Scepter.

Harvest Glaive. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (3d8 + 4) slashing damage plus 9 (2d8) radiant damage.

Star Scepter. Ranged Spell Attack: +7 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (3d6 + 5) radiant damage, and if the target is below half its hit point maximum it is blinded until the end of its next turn.

Bonus Actions & Reactions

Constellation's Mercy. Reaction (recharge 5-6). When an ally the maiden can see within 30 feet takes damage, she can interpose her wings, reducing that damage by 15 (3d8 + 2) and teleporting the ally up to 10 feet to an unoccupied space she can see.

A winged maiden in star-forged half-plate descends before a throne of crystal pillars, a reaping glaive in one hand and a heart-tipped scepter in the other, the sign of the Virgin burning above her brow.

Wheat-Light (signature). While within 15 feet of Virgo, the first time on each of its turns an ally regains hit points, it regains an extra 1d6 hit points.

Actions

Sickle of Stars. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) radiant damage.

Reactions

Gleaning Step. When an ally within 10 feet falls to 0 hit points, Virgo can move up to its speed toward that ally without provoking opportunity attacks and stabilize it on arrival.

A lesser star-spirit bound to the Maiden's service, Virgo drifts at her shoulder as a mote of golden light, ever ready to glean the fallen from the field.

How It Fights — by Tier

Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.

Tier 1Levels 1-4 · GUIDELINE
AC14HP8d8 (52) To-hit+4Save DC13

Open with the Star Scepter from range to blind a softened target, then move so the Harvest Sigil covers your front line. If foes cluster on a wounded ally, spend Constellation's Mercy to yank them clear. Kill-priority: anything threatening your weakest hero. Pair her with a heavier melee threat so she can play protector, not solo wall.

Tier 2Levels 5-10 · NATIVE
AC16HP13d8+65 (123) To-hit+7Save DC15

Open by planting the Harvest Sigil over your minions, then Multiattack the most dangerous striker. If the party clusters, lead with the scepter to blind, then close with the glaive. Save Constellation's Mercy for the round an ally would drop. She is a support anchor, not a boss, pair her with a bigger threat to do the heavy killing.

Tier 3Levels 11-15 · GUIDELINE
AC18HP18d8+108 (189) To-hit+9Save DC16

Field her with lair and minions: the Harvest Sigil keeps the horde standing while she snipes with the scepter and reaps with the glaive. Open on the party's healer or controller. Use Constellation's Mercy to teleport a key minion out of an AoE. She buffs and shields, so always pair her with a larger flagship threat to apply the real pressure.

Questions, Asked at the Table

What CR is Virgo?

Natively CR 6 (Tier 2), a celestial support-skirmisher built for levels 5-10. Scaled stat blocks are provided for Tier 1 (CR ~2) and Tier 3 (CR ~11) so you can drop her into any party without rebuilding her kit.

Can Virgo be a companion or ally?

Yes. As a lawful good celestial she makes a natural ally summoned at an equinox or answered prayer. Her Harvest Sigil and Constellation's Mercy keep a party standing, and her bound star-spirit Spica gleans fallen heroes back from the brink.

Is Virgo a boss monster on her own?

No. She has no legendary actions and her kit is built to support, so a four-person party will out-act her in a solo fight. Run her as an add-on to a bigger flagship threat, anchoring a line of minions rather than standing alone.
