Weletecora
Weletecora — The Encounter
Crowned Serpent-Queen of the Highland Springs · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Weletecora
In the springs of the high country they name her Weletecora, the daughter of the green water who wears the morning vine for a crown. The elders tell that she rose from a sacred pool to wed a mortal king, and that the serpents of gold which guard her throne are the spirits of every river she has blessed. Brides bring her coral and millet beer; mothers leave her honey at the spring's edge so their children will grow strong and their cattle fat. Yet she is no gentle spirit to be trifled with. Those who foul her waters or break an oath sworn in her name find their own kin turned against them, snared by a voice as sweet as it is binding. She speaks, and men forget their grievances; she frowns, and the serpents come uncoiling. To meet her gaze is to lose the thread of one's own will, and to drink her favor is to belong to the highlands forever.
Run Weletecora in Sixty Seconds
- Hold the throne Keep Weletecora inside her 10-foot Coiled Throne the whole fight — it is difficult terrain for foes and every enemy turn that ends there eats a free serpent lash via her reaction.
- Open with the leash Lead with Queen's Command on the party's biggest damage dealer, turning him on his own friends for the first round of chaos.
- Kill-priority She targets whoever can dispel or break charms first — a freed PC is her greatest threat.
- When bloodied Bonus-action shift into serpent form for the extra bite, and use Serpent's Glide to slither out of any cluster that pins her down.
- Three ways to run her As a courtly negotiator who only fights if betrayed, as a vengeful spring-spirit punishing oath-breakers, or as a full boss surrounded by her golden coral serpents.
Weletecora
Medium fey (shapechanger), neutral
CR 7 · 2,900 XP · GUIDELINECoiled Throne (signature). Weletecora is wreathed by a lattice of living golden serpents that guard her court. The space within 10 feet of her is difficult terrain for her enemies. When a hostile creature ends its turn there, Weletecora may use her reaction to lash it with a serpent for 9 (2d8) poison damage.
Beguiling Presence. Weletecora has advantage on Charisma checks made to charm or persuade, and any creature charmed by her treats her words as truth while the charm lasts.
Highland Serpent. As a bonus action, Weletecora can polymorph into a Large constrictor serpent, or back into her royal form. Her statistics are the same in each form, save that in serpent form her speed is 40 ft. and her melee attacks deal an extra 5 (1d10) piercing damage. Anything she is wearing transforms with her.
Actions
Multiattack. Weletecora makes two attacks with her Coral Lash, or casts a spell and makes one Coral Lash attack.
Coral Lash. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (3d6 + 3) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) poison damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned until the end of its next turn.
Queen's Command (Recharge 5-6). Weletecora fixes her gaze on one creature she can see within 60 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed for 1 minute. While charmed this way, the creature must use its action to move toward Weletecora or attack a target of her choice. The creature repeats the save at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Serpent's Glide. When a creature within 5 feet hits her, Weletecora can move up to half her speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
Legendary Actions (3/Round)
Lash. Weletecora makes one Coral Lash attack.
Coiling Step (Costs 1 Action). Weletecora moves up to her speed without provoking opportunity attacks. If she ends this move within 10 feet of a creature, that creature must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be restrained by serpents until the start of her next turn.
Honeyed Word (Costs 2 Actions). Weletecora speaks a beguiling decree. Each enemy within 30 feet that can hear her must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or have disadvantage on attack rolls until the end of its next turn.
A highland queen crowned in living leaves and coral, she stands serene within a throne woven of golden serpents that rear and coil at her command.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open with Queen's Command on the party's striker, then keep enemies in her Coiled Throne so the serpents chew them. If clustered, drop Honeyed Word before they can focus her. Kill-priority is whoever can break the charm; pair her with serpent minions to swarm the freed targets.
Open by charming the heaviest melee PC with Queen's Command, then spend legendary actions on Coiling Step to restrain healers between turns. Stay inside the Coiled Throne so every enemy turn that ends near her takes a free serpent lash. When bloodied, slip into serpent form with Highland Serpent for the extra bite and use Serpent's Glide to peel away from gangs.
Run her as the heart of a serpent court with a lair full of coral-bound guardians. Open Honeyed Word to blind the party's accuracy, charm the controller, and use Coiling Step to lock down anyone who closes. Pair her with a bigger threat or her bound coral serpents so the action economy stays in her favor; she rewards a battlefield she has had time to prepare.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Weletecora?
Her native build is CR 7 (2,900 XP), tuned for a Tier 2 party of levels 5-10. Because she carries a real legendary-action and reaction kit, she is solo-capable and her sheet drops one band so she plays up a CR or two. Scaled stat lines for Tier 1 (levels 1-4) and Tier 3 (levels 11-15) are provided in the tiers block.
Can Weletecora be a companion or ally?
Yes. If the party earns her favor at the springs, she can lend one of her golden serpents — the Coral Serpent, Bound (AC 14, 76 HP) — as a guardian ally that grapples enemies and shields its keeper. She herself rarely leaves her highland court, but her blessing travels with those she trusts.
Is Weletecora drawn from real mythology?
Yes. She is framed through Ethiopian highland folklore as a water-and-serpent queen of the sacred springs — a public-domain mythological figure, statted here as a fey shapechanger using only SRD-safe content.
