Yeomra
Yeomra — The Encounter
Great King who judges the dead at the gate of the underworld · a boss your table can run with almost no prep. SRD 5.1-compatible.
Who Is Yeomra
Know him as Yeomra, Great King and tenth judge at the gate where every soul must pass. When breath leaves the body the dead are marched before his bench, and there is no bribe, no plea, and no name unwritten in his ledger. He reads aloud the sum of a life, weighs cruelty against kindness, and pronounces the road each spirit must walk thereafter. His messengers drag the chains; he needs only his voice and his seal. Mortals who meet him still living have crossed where they should not have, and he judges them as harshly as any corpse. He is not wrathful in the manner of demons, for wrath implies doubt, and the King of the gate has never once been uncertain. To stand in his court is to feel one's own deeds turned against one as a sentence. Cross him, and the verdict is already written.
Run Yeomra in Sixty Seconds
- Hold: Yeomra is a judge, not a brawler. Open by marking the deadliest PC Judged with the Ledger, then Sentence Deferred the first enemy that casts or attacks to paralyze them on their own turn.
- Kill priority: aim Verdict at whoever is already below half hit points. The no-death clause turns it into an execution. Healers and squishy nukers go on the bench first.
- When bloodied: spend two legendary actions on Toll of the Dead, which deals extra to any already-wounded PC. Drag a lone target away from the party with the Chain so the healer can't reach them.
- Three ways to run it: (1) Cold magistrate, methodical, narrate each Verdict as a pronounced sentence. (2) Inevitable doom, the chain pulls and pins so escape feels futile. (3) Court of the dead, surround him with the Reaper and undead so the party never gets a clean shot.
- Remember: Magic Resistance plus immunity to frightened and charmed means save-or-suck control rarely lands. Tell players up front that fear and dominate won't work, so they pivot to damage.
Yeomra
Medium undead, lawful neutral
CR 8 · 3,900 XP · GUIDELINEThe Ledger of Sins. Yeomra reads the wrongs of every living thing. At the start of his turn he marks one creature he can see as Judged until the start of his next turn. Yeomra has advantage on attack rolls against a Judged creature, and a Judged creature has disadvantage on saving throws against his Verdict.
Magic Resistance. Yeomra has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Actions
Multiattack. Yeomra uses Verdict, then makes one Chain of Reckoning attack.
Chain of Reckoning. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (3d6+4) necrotic damage, and if the target is a creature it must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be pulled 10 ft. toward Yeomra and have its speed reduced to 0 until the end of its next turn.
Verdict (Recharge 5-6). Yeomra pronounces sentence on one creature he can see within 60 ft. The target makes a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw, taking 31 (7d8) necrotic damage on a failure, or half as much on a success. A creature reduced to 0 hit points by this damage is judged unworthy and dies.
Bonus Actions & Reactions
Sentence Deferred. Reaction, when a creature within 60 ft. that Yeomra can see casts a spell or makes an attack: Yeomra points his seal and that creature must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be paralyzed until the end of its next turn as the weight of its guilt seizes it.
Legendary Actions (3/Round)
Pronounce. Yeomra marks a new creature as Judged (no action contest).
Drag the Chain. Yeomra makes one Chain of Reckoning attack.
Toll of the Dead (Costs 2 Actions). Each enemy within 20 ft. of Yeomra must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or take 10 (3d6) necrotic damage; a creature already below half its hit points takes 18 (4d8) instead.
A grave magistrate in layered judicial robes stands beneath the tiled eaves of an underworld gate-shrine, an iron tally-chain in one hand and the seal of final judgment in the other. The cracked stone of the threshold marks where the living end and his court begins.
Yeomra, Bound
Companion · acts on your initiative
Bound · GUIDELINESummons of the Court (signature). When the Reaper hits a creature, that creature is marked as Judged for Yeomra until the start of Yeomra's next turn, as if by his Ledger of Sins.
Actions
Soul-Tally Blade. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8+3) necrotic damage.
Reactions
Escort the Dying. When a creature within 30 ft. drops to 0 hit points, the Reaper moves up to its speed toward that creature without provoking opportunity attacks.
A faceless messenger in a black gat and robes who walks ahead of the King, marking those whose names have come due.

How It Fights — by Tier
Same creature, scaled threat. The traits never change; only the numbers move.
Open with Sentence Deferred on the first caster, then Verdict the lowest-HP PC to try for an outright kill. Mark the front-liner Judged and drag them with the Chain so the back rank is exposed. Lean on legendary actions to act between turns; keep the Reaper between Yeomra and the melee.
Mark the deadliest PC Judged each turn, then Verdict whoever is already below half to convert the no-death clause into a kill. Use Sentence Deferred to paralyze the party's nuker on its own turn. When bloodied, spend two legendary actions on Toll of the Dead to punish a clustered party, then drag a straggler out of the healer's reach.
Run him as the centerpiece of his court with the Reaper plus 2-4 undead escorts so the party cannot focus him down. Open Verdict on the cleric, Sentence Deferred the strongest caster, and Pronounce a new Judged target every round. Toll of the Dead snowballs against anyone the minions have already bloodied; keep the chain pulling escapees back into the kill box.

How a bound creature acts
- A companion acts on its owner's initiative, immediately after the owner.
- It uses the Companion block above — roughly ×0.6 HP and damage, no recharge abilities, and at most one reaction trait.
- It moves freely; it takes its Action only while its owner is conscious.
- At 0 HP a companion is broken, not dead — restored on a long rest unless your table rules otherwise.

Questions, Asked at the Table
What CR is Yeomra?
Natively CR 8 (Tier 2, ~3,900 XP) as a solo centerpiece, scalable down to a Tier 1 skirmish boss (~CR 5) or up to a Tier 3 lord of his court (~CR 11). His legendary actions and Sentence Deferred reaction let him fight a full party alone, so he plays up a band from his raw numbers.
Can Yeomra be a companion or ally?
Not as a follower. He is the impartial judge at the gate of the dead, and he answers to no mortal. He can act as a quest-giver or grim arbiter who sends his Reaper-Messenger, Jeoseung Saja, to escort a worthy party, but Yeomra himself never marches at anyone's command.
Does Verdict really just kill a PC?
Only if its necrotic damage drops them to 0. It is not save-or-die. The intent is to make low-HP targets terrified to stand in the open, not to delete healthy PCs. Used on someone already bloodied it becomes a true execution, which is the threat that makes the encounter tense.
