The Grimoire Speaks

Botis is the Seventeenth Spirit of the Ars Goetia, holding the rank of Count/President in the infernal hierarchy. According to the Lesser Key of Solomon, Botis commands 60 legions of inferior spirits and belongs to the order of Counts. As a Count/President, Botis serves within the structured hierarchy beneath the Great Kings of the Goetia.

Appearance

He appeareth at first in the form of an ugly Viper, and if the Exorcist hath courage, he will put on a Human Shape with Great Teeth and two Horns, carrying a bright and sharp Sword in his hand.

Powers & Dominion

He telleth all things Past, and to Come, and reconcileth Friends and Foes.

Summoning & Constraints

He governeth 60 Legions of Spirits.

Historical Note

The seal and description of Botis are drawn from the Ars Goetia, the first book of the Lemegeton (Lesser Key of Solomon), a 17th-century grimoire compiled from older Medieval and Renaissance sources. The 72 demons were said to have been conjured and bound by King Solomon using a brass vessel sealed with divine names. Each demon's seal, reproduced above, was used by the conjurer as a means of identification and control during the summoning ritual. Clay Cyanide's sculptural interpretations bring these ancient descriptions into three-dimensional form for the first time as presupported 3D printable STL miniatures.
