The Grimoire Speaks

Bael is the First Spirit of the Ars Goetia, holding the rank of King in the infernal hierarchy. According to the Lesser Key of Solomon, Bael commands 66 legions of inferior spirits and belongs to the order of Kings. This entity is among the nine Kings of the Goetia — the supreme rulers of Hell's legions.

Appearance

He appeareth in divers shapes, sometimes like a Cat, sometimes like a Toad, and sometimes like a Man, and sometimes all these forms at once. He speaketh hoarsely.

Powers & Dominion

He maketh thee to go Invisible. He ruleth over 66 Legions of Infernal Spirits.

Summoning & Constraints

His powers are best manifest when the Sun is in his sign. He must be invoked wearing the Lamen upon the breast.

Historical Note

The seal and description of Bael are drawn from the Ars Goetia, the first book of the Lemegeton (Lesser Key of Solomon), a 17th-century grimoire compiled from older Medieval and Renaissance sources. The 72 demons were said to have been conjured and bound by King Solomon using a brass vessel sealed with divine names. Each demon's seal, reproduced above, was used by the conjurer as a means of identification and control during the summoning ritual. Clay Cyanide's sculptural interpretations bring these ancient descriptions into three-dimensional form for the first time as presupported 3D printable STL miniatures.
